What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from partying off the new trailer for Black Panther to bring you the latest releases to home media for October 17, 2017. In this week’s episode, we discuss the final film of an icon, all my girls gettin’ rowdy tonight, a teenaged hero, worshipping the greats, and the end of an animated era. Let’s get started.
Batman vs. Two-Face (PG)

When former Gotham District Attorney Harvey Dent (William Shatner) goes full villain as Two-Face, it’s up to Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) to stop him. But, they also have to deal with the rest of Batman’s tyrannical Rogues Gallery in a fight for the soul of Gotham! This film, which also stars Julie Newmar, Steven Weber, and Jim Ward, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. For many, their fondest memories of Batman come from the West/Ward dynamic, and this is a fantastic send-off for the role of what many consider to be the greatest Caped Crusader. Give it a watch.
Girls Trip (R)

When the Flossy Posse - Ryan (Regina Hall), Sasha (Queen Latifah), Lisa (Jada Pinkett Smith), and Dina (Tiffany Haddish) - get together, they are a force to be reckoned with. As they reunite for a trip to New Orleans and the annual Essence Festival, they turn out the Big Easy in ways that the city has never seen before. Buckle up; this is gonna be a hell of a ride. This film, which also stars Mike Coulter, Kofi Siriboe, and Lorenz Tate, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. This film shows a dynamic of black women we haven’t seen on the big screen in a very long time, and it’s high time we got seen as more than period piece filler. I highly recommend this film.
Spider-Man: Homecoming (PG-13)

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) returns to Queens where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) and tries to settle back into his normal routine. But, when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) starts selling dangerous weapons to criminals and his mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) seemingly absent, the wall-crawler has to spring back into action to save the people and city he loves. This film, which also stars Zendaya, Laura Harrier, and Donald Glover, is available in a two disc 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. This movie was fun, smart, and shows that the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is in good hands. This is a must watch.
American Gods: Season One

When Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) is released from prison early due to the death of his wife Laura (Emily Browning), he runs into the mysterious Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) who hires the forlorn man to be his bodyguard. What entails next is Shadow taking a journey through the mysticism of the Old Gods and their battle against the New Gods. This series, which also stars Pablo Schreiber, Yetide Badaki, and Gillian Anderson, is available in a three disc Blu-ray version and a three disc DVD version. This was a very trippy show that was a lot of fun to watch and I still haven’t watched anything past the third episode but I’m working on that. Check it out.
Samurai Jack: The Complete Fifth Season

In this, the final season of this animated classic, 50 years has passed for Samurai Jack (Phil LaMarr), and time has not been kind to him. Aku (Greg Baldwin, subbing in for the deceased Mako), his mortal enemy, has destroyed all of the time portals, Jack himself cannot age due to constant time traveling, and Aku has followers who want nothing more than to kill Jack for Aku’s glory. This series, which also features the voices of Grey Griffin, Sab Shimano, and Tara Strong, is available in a single disc Blu-ray version and a two disc DVD version. This season closes on the saga of Samurai Jack and hopefully gives him the rest he deserves. If you were a fan of the show, this is a great end point.
