What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from my weekly DVR purge to bring you the latest releases to home media for October 20, 2015. In this week, we discuss The Rock, a journey into mystery, and the end of an icon. Ready to get started? Let’s go.
San Andreas (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 50%
Dwayne Johnson vs. nature; you knew this was gonna happen eventually. Dwayne Johnson plays Chief Ray Gaines, a search and rescue pilot who’s good at his job, much to the dismay of his family life; his wife Emma (Carla Gugino) left him and his daughter Blake (Alexandra Daddario) has moved on without him. But, when the San Andreas fault gives up the ghost and Los Angeles follows suit, it’s up to him to save his family and as many people as he possibly can. This film, which also stars Paul Giamatti, Ioan Gruffudd, and Archie Panjabi, is available in a three disc 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. I like Dwayne Johnson as much as the next guy, and he petrifies me, even though he’s the nicest human being on the face of the earth, but this movie is bad. If you like disaster porn, have at it. Otherwise, this movie is a fault upon itself. I have no idea where I was going with that, so we’ll move on.
Tomorrowland (PG)

Casey (Britt Robertson) is a bright, smart young woman with a love for science. When she runs into former boy genius turned jaded old codger Frank (George Clooney), the two embark on a journey of mystery and fantasy as they travel to Tomorrowland. Together, they must explore this mysterious realm and find the key to save both worlds. This film, which also stars Hugh Laurie, Raffey Cassidy, and Tim McGraw, is available in both a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This film, despite the Rotten Tomatoes rating, is a magical film that speaks to the science nerds in all of us. This film is my pick of the week, and it’s fun for the whole family.
Mad Men: The Final Season, Part 2
The story of Don Draper (Jon Hamm) finally comes to an end in this release. In 1971, Draper is still trying to cement his legacy as one of the greatest admen of all time. But, when the biggest company of all time comes to his company to give them an ad for the ages, he realizes that he has his work cut out for him. This series, which also stars Christina Hendricks, Elisabeth Moss, and John Slattery, is available in a two disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version. This is a series that ran its course, but fell victim of its own hubris when it was decided to split the final season into two parts. It worked for Breaking Bad, but most people had all but forgotten about the show near the end. I’ll let you discuss how you feel about the series finale, but I do know that it rankled some feathers. If you stuck with the show for this long, you may as well finish it up; be it on a high note or not. After all, brand loyalty is important.
