What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from enjoying this crisp fall weather to bring you the latest releases to home media for September 12, 2017. In this week’s episode, we discuss a children’s classic, another remake, clear eyes, clones, tech bros, and politics. Let’s get started.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (PG)

Metascore: 69

Based on the children’s book series of the same name, this movie tells the story of George (Kevin Hart) and Harold (Thomas Middleditch), two kids with an imagination bordering on hyperactive. Together, they hypnotize their principal (Ed Helms) to believe he is the heroic Captain Underpants. As Captain Underpants, he sets forth on a quest to defeat his nemesis Professor Poopypants (Nick Kroll) once and for all. This film, which also stars Jordan Peele, Kristen Schaal, and Dee Dee Rescher, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD + Digital HD version. This is a great movie for children or anyone who’s a fan of the character and the franchise. Give it a watch.

The Mummy (PG-13)

Metascore: 34

Thought safely buried beneath the desert, Princess Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella) – whose lust for power became her downfall – is accidentally revived by Nick Morton (Tom Cruise). Her malevolence has grown throughout time and she has developed power beyond our understanding. Now, it’s up to Nick and Jenny Halsey (Annabelle Wallis) to put a stop to her once and for all. This film, which also stars Russell Crowe, Jake Johnson, and Courtney B. Vance, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. Which one of you asked for this? This was a bad idea; if you’re just itching for a Mummy movie, might I recommend either the 1932 horror version or the 1999 action version. Don’t watch this.

Friday Night Lights: The Complete Series

Metascore: 78

Coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) is hired to take on the struggling football program at Dillon High School. Throughout his first two seasons, he and his wife Tami (Connie Britton) and daughter Julie (Aimee Teagarden) experience the highest of highs and the lowest of lows of championship football in Texas. He then gets to take over a new program on the east side of town which brings its own challenges. In the end, as with all things in Texas, there is only one night more important than anything else: Friday night. This series, which also stars Taylor Kitsch, Michael B. Jordan, and Zach Gilford, is available in a thirteen disc Blu-ray version and a thirteen disc DVD version. Friday Night Lights is one of the most beloved TV shows of our time; even though college football is the backdrop, the characters themselves are driving the bus. I couldn’t recommend this series any higher if I tried, and it’s a definite must watch.

Orphan Black: Season Five

In the final season of this award winning drama, the clone’s world has been turned upside down. Cosima and Alison (Tatiana Maslany) – along with Sara’s daughter Kira (Skyler Wexler) have surrendered. Rachel (Maslany) is now the head of the cloning revolution, and she’s taken a particular interest in Helena (Maslany); she’s pregnant with twins, and this could change everything. Meanwhile, Sarah (Maslany) is still fighting the good fight, and she’s willing to risk it all to save her sisters…no matter the cost. This series, which also stars Jordan Gavaris, Maria Doyle Kennedy, and Kristian Bruun, is available in a two disc Blu-ray version and a three disc DVD version. This series has been phenomenal since day one, and I highly recommend watching it from beginning to end.

Silicon Valley: The Complete Fourth Season

Metascore: 85

Season Four of this HBO dramedy has changes coming from all angles. PiperChat is still being pursued by the Pied Piper guys, but Richard (Thomas Middleditch) would prefer to use his algorithm for other uses. Dinesh (Kumail Nanjiani) is becoming more notorious, Gilfoyle (Martin Starr) is enjoying the chaos, Erlich (T.J. Miller) is trying to find the next big thing, Jared (Zach Woods) is trying to get a better seat in the company, and Big Head (Josh Brener) has become a teacher. Change is in the air, and only time will tell if things will ever be the same again. This series, which also stars Stephen Tobolowsky, Amanda Crew, and Suzanne Cryer, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD + Digital HD version. This is a pretty solid show and it’s worth checking out for a few laughs.

Veep: The Complete Sixth Season

In the sixth season of this HBO comedy, change is in the air. President Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is out of public office for the first time in years due to a loss in a Senate vote resolving an Electoral College tie. Moving on to secure her legacy while the rest of her staff decides to pursue their further endeavors, Selina and the merry bands of misfits try to make their mark in Washington D.C. and beyond. This series, which also stars Anna Chlumsky, Tony Hale, and Matt Walsh, is available in a two disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version. Julia Louis-Dreyfus has come a long way since playing Elaine in Seinfeld. At least I think that was her character’s name; I never watched the show. At any rate, check this show out; it’s a lot of fun.
