What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from wishing my beloved Washington NFL team goes 0-16 in perpetuity to bring you the latest releases to home media for September 15, 2015. In this week’s episode, we discuss love in the time of immortality, ghost hunters, spy TV, a doomed hometown, and more shenanigans in Maine. Ready to get started? Let’s get started, then.

The Age of Adaline (PG-13)

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 54%

Adaline Bowman (Blake Lively) stumbled upon the fountain of youth; for the past eight decades, she’s been a healthy 29 year old. As such, she’s lived most of her life in solitary, and not allowed herself to love anyone. But, when she meets philanthropist Ellis Jones (Michael Huisman), he reawakens the passion and love she left buried. However, she realizes that life is more of a circle than she immediately thought, and secrets are threatened to be revealed. This film, which also stars Harrison Ford and Kathy Baker, is available in both a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This is an old-fashioned love story writ large, and if that’s your thing, then this is for you.

Supernatural: Season 10

This is the show that never ends; it just goes on and on, my friend. Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) lost his battle against Metatron, his brother Sam (Jared Padalecki) goes to get him back, but he has to do some dark stuff in the process. Castiel (Misha Collins) has his own demons to face, and Crowley, the King of Hell (of course he is), has his own familial issues to deal with. This series, which also stars Jim Beaver, Ty Olsson, and Mark Sheppard, is available in both a four disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a six disc DVD version. Ten years in, this show is still going strong, and it shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. For the sheer tenacity of it all, this is my pick of the week. Carry on, my wayward son, indeed.

 

Homeland: The Compete Fourth Season

After the events of Season Three, Carrie (Claire Danes) has taken on a new position as CIA station chief. Along with Saul (Mandy Patinkin), they go searching for one of the world’s most dangerous terrorists. But, when Carrie recruits a young Pakistani as an asset, things go south in a hurry as lines are blurred, loyalties are tested, and things take a turn for the worst. This series, which also stars Damian Lewis, Rupert Friend, and Tracy Letts, is available in both a three disc Blu-ray version and a four disc DVD version. How Carrie hasn’t lost her job is a mystery to me, but she must be good for something…right? Anyway, this series is at least entertaining to see how she digs herself out of a hole of her own creation.

 

Gotham: The Complete First Season

Gotham City: come for the architecture, stay because you can’t afford to leave. This tells the story of how Jim Gordon went from a rookie detective to the Police Commissioner. This also gives you insight into a young Bruce Wayne, a young Selina Kyle, and the beginnings of the world’s most infamous Rogue’s Gallery. This series, which stars Ben McKenzie, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Sean Pertwee, is available in both a four disc Blu-ray version and a six disc DVD version. If there is one thing I pride myself on when writing these, it’s blunt honesty. I have not seen one nanosecond of this show. From everything I’ve heard, it’s a minefield to cross, and the season finale made people angry beyond belief. But…if you like Batman, this is for you.

 

Haven: The Complete Fifth Season, Vol. 1

Haven’s secret is under fire, but the townsfolk are trying their best to keep it secret. But, when a CDC doctor comes to visit, she finds not only the genetic marker for it, but also a possible cure. However, she may not be as altruistic as it may appear. This series, which stars Emily Rose, Lucas Bryant, and Eric Balfour, is available in a four disc Blu-ray version and a four disc DVD version. So, what’s Haven’s secret? Besides being in Maine, that is? You’ll just have to watch to find out.
