BluTuesday - September 16, 2014
What’s good, ProFans? Joseph here, and I’m taking a break from cheering for my beloved UAB Blazers (2-1 for the first time since 2006) to bring you the newest releases in home media for September 16, 2014. In this week’s episode, we discuss the King of the Monsters, YA heartstrings, a headscratcher of a sequel, and a lot of TV. Ready to get to it? Well, let’s get started.
Godzilla (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD UltraViolet Combo Pack)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 73%
This much-anticipated movie was one of the most perplexing films of the year. In fact, I can’t really think of the best way to describe it. Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Ken Watanabe star in this movie that brings back Godzilla as he goes face-to-face with two ferocious monsters. This movie is available in a three disc 3D Bluray/Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a two disc DVD + Digital Copy version. I…I didn’t like this movie. At all. I went in with an open mind, I loved the opening cinematics, and I adored the score by Alexandre Desplat. Outside of that, I was utterly disappointed. I know ProFan John wrote a beautiful review of it, but I just couldn’t wrap my head around a very big flaw I saw in the movie. But…your mileage may vary. So, I can’t say don’t watch it; just don’t go in with the highest of expectations.
Here’s ProFan John’s review of Godzilla.
The Fault In Our Stars (Extended) [HD]
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 80%
Starring Shaielene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, this movie centers around Hazel (Woodley) and Gus (Elgort) as they form an incredible romance despite the difficulties both are having; she is suffering from terminal thyroid cancer that has metastasized into her lungs - causing her to always need an oxygen tank to help breathe, and he has a prosthetic leg due to osteosarcoma (cancer of the bone tumor). This movie is available in a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version with an Inifnity Braclet, a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This is a tale of happiness, disappointment, and coming of age through tough times. Give it a watch.
Think Like a Man 2 (DVD/UltraViolet)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 24%
The cast from the surprise hit Think Like a Man come back for this ill-advised sequel - this time in Vegas for a big wedding. Kevin Hart and his shrill voice star in this sequel that nobody asked for, and no one needs. I don’t even really know how to describe this movie. So…this movie is available in both a single disc Bluray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD + Digital Copy version. Don’t watch this movie; I know it’s full of beautiful people and Kevin Hart, but I’m begging you to not watch this movie. Please.
And, as far as our TV shows go, this is what we have on the docket:
