World War Z (NR)

“The suspense is killer!” proclaims Peter Travers of Rolling Stone in this fast-paced, pulse-pounding epic of the potential last days of the human race. Former United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) is called upon to help stop the chaotic pandemic that has gripped populations around the world. Lane fights to keep his family safe, while searching for an answer to the outbreak before it destroys all of civilization. David Denby of The New Yorker calls World War Z the “most gratifying action spectacle in years!” This film comes in a three disc 3D Bluray/Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. The zombie genre just will not die…no pun intended. There was a lot of criticism on this movie because it strayed so far from the book it was based on, but they didn’t have to worry. The movie was a success, and it gets the pick of the week.

Grimm is back, and delves even deeper into the unseen evils around us in all 22 “addictively entertaining” (Kristi Turnquist, The Oregonian) Season Two episodes. Now fully embracing his identity as a Grimm, Portland homicide detective Nick Burkhardt tackles even more gruesome and bizarre crimes linked to creatures of lore. With the help of his partner Hank and Wesen confidants Monroe and Rosalee, Nick must face an ancient royal bloodline linked to the mysterious Captain Renard, all while fighting to keep from losing the love of his life forever. Watch every chilling and evocative episode back-to-back and uninterrupted of the hit series critics say is “impossible not to love.” (Mary McNamara, Los Angeles Times). This series comes in two five disc versions: a Bluray + Ultraviolet set and a DVD set. Grimm is something I’ve been intending on getting into, but I’ve just never gotten around to it. That will change soon, though; I guarantee that.
Arrow: The Complete First Season
Based on DC Comics, Green Arrow superhero comic book series, Arrow has been reinvented for a modern day audience and comes to DVD and BD for the first time. After being marooned for five years on a remote island, billionaire Oliver Queen returns home with a mysterious agenda and a lethal set of new skills that he uses in a war on crime in this hard-hitting action series. After suffering unimaginable ordeals on the island, the Oliver returns to Starling City a new man — determined to right the wrongs of his father and sworn to bring justice to those who’ve corrupted his city. But Oliver finds his crusade complicated by his friends and family who are all affected by his return. This series comes in both a nine disc Bluray/DVD + Ultraviolet version and a five disc DVD version. I really enjoyed this season; it started off slow and plodding, but it got so much better after the midway point. Plus, it has a finale that will make your jaw drop. I highly recommend it.
From the producers of Lost and Friday Night Lights comes the thrilling Bates Motel: Season One on Blu-ray and DVD. A modern day re-imagining of the classic film “Psycho,” Bates Motel looks at Norman Bates’ teenage years and just how deeply intricate his relationship with his mother, Norma, truly is and how she helped forge the most famous serial killer of them all. Starring Academy Award nominee Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) and Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), watch every spine-tingling episode back-to-back and uninterrupted of the series critics are calling, “Moody, twisty, creepy and gloriously insane” (Los Angeles Times). This series comes in both a two disc Bluray + Ultraviolet version and a three disc DVD version. I’m normally not a fan of re=imagining shows or movies, but I make exceptions for cases like this.
