BluTuesday - September 18, 2012

Hello, there! Joseph here with the new Bluray releases for September 18, 2012. In this edition, we’re gonna be talking about the world’s worst camping trip and a pretty wicked mentor.. Ready? Let’s get to it.

The Cabin in the Woods (R)

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 90%

When this movie was released on April 13, 2012, every geek on the planet went into a spontaneous nerdgasm.  With Joss Wheedon writing this horror-comedy, it was hopeful that this would be a Joss Wheedon production that would succeed where “Dollhouse,” “Firefly,” and “Serenity” failed. Starring Chris Hemsworth before he became Thor, it’s a movie about…well…I really can’t describe it. According to the official press release, it’s the story about how “five friends go for a break at a remote cabin in the woods, where they get more than they bargained for. Together, they must discover the truth behind the cabin in the woods.” During its 13 week run, it peaked at #3 in the top five, but it set the geek world afire. I don’t normally do horror movies, but I will do this one. So much so, that I’m going to consider this my pick of the week.

The Devil’s Advocate (R)

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 67%

Released on October 17, 1997, this horror thriller – starring Keanu Reaves, Charlize Theron, and the scenery-chewing Al Pacino – tells the tale of hotshot Gainesville defense attorney Kevin Lomax (Keanu Reeves) who attracts the attention of New York law firm Milton, Chadwick & Waters, and one of their partners John Milton. He offers Lomax a large salary and a nice apartment if he joins their firm. Against the wishes of his mom, he accepts and moves up to NYC. Once there, he realizes that things are not as they seem, and he may have made a grave mistake. During its 17-week run in theaters, it spent four of those weeks in the top five with a three week peak at #2. This movie couldn’t make up its mind where it wanted to end up, but it made over $60 million when it was all said and done. This really is a tight little thriller, and it’s certainly worth a shot.

  1. Supernatural S7! This weekend! Yay!

  2. I really do want to watch “Cabin in the Woods,” but I’m not a horror fan. I’m so conflicted.

    Hawaii Five-0? It’s…well…fantastic!
