What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from my recuperating from my class reunion (proudly representing Fairfield High School Class of 95!) to bring you the latest releases to home media for September 8, 2015. In this week’s episode, we discuss one badass movie, the last movie for a giant, a battle a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, sexy vampires, and…more sexy vampires. Ready to get started? Let’s go.
Mad Max: Fury Road (Blu-ray + DVD + UltraViolet)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 97%
After a 30 year hiatus, the iconic badass has returned. Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) finds himself protecting Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) as they flee across the Wasteland. Their mission is to get Furiosa and her charges from the tyrannous Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne). This film, which also stars Nicholas Hoult, Rosie Huntington-Whitley, and Zoe Kravitz, is available in a single disc 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a single disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This film goes ham, and everyone involved seems to be having a spectacular time. This film is my pick of the week, and it’s just a load of fun.
Boulevard (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 51%
This movie tells the story of Nolan Mack (Robin Williams), a man of monotony; he’s been working at the same job for 25 years, he and his wife Joy (Kathy Baker) treat their marriage as one of convenience instead of one of love, and he’s essentially biding his time - neither happy nor sad…he just exists. However, one wrong turn on the way home has him reexamining everything he knows about himself. This film, which also stars Bob Odenkirk, Roberto Aguire, and J. Karen Thomas, is available in a single disc Blu-ray version and a single disc DVD version. This movie is heartbreaking; not only because it is the final film of Robin Williams, but because it forces you to look at yourself in the mundane and wonder if where you are is really where you’re supposed to be. I highly recommend it.
Star Wars Rebels: Complete Season One
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, the resistance begins! Ezra Bridger (Taylor Gray) joins the crew of the Ghost as they prepare to take back a planet deep in the throes of Empire rule. This series, which also stars Freddie Prinze, Jr., Vanessa Marshall, and James Earl Jones, is available in both a two disc Blu-ray version and a three disc DVD version. Listen…it’s Star Wars. Nothing I can say will convince you one way or the other to check this out. So, I’m not even gonna recommend that you check this out. Although, I do recommend that you check this out.
The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Sixth Season
College is always looked upon as a time to reinvent yourself, and that goes even for vampires. After having an, ahem - “exciting” - summer with Damon, Elena heads to Whitmore College with Caroline, completely unaware that Bonnie sacrificed herself to save Jeremy’s life. Meanwhile, Stephen and Caroline grow closer after having a shared experience against a nomadic witch tribe known only as the Travelers. But, there is evil afoot, and it all comes to a head sooner rather than later. This series, which stars Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, and Kat Graham, is available in both a four disc Blu-ray version and a five disc DVD version. Remember what I said about the last entry? That goes for this as well. You know what you’re getting into.
The Originals: The Complete Second Season
Season Two of this CW series finds New Orleans under the purview of the werewolves for the first time in centuries. This doesn’t make Klaus Mikaleson (Joseph Morgan) happy; in fact, he’s busy plotting his revenge and defending Hope to the death. But, Klaus has even bigger fish to fry, because the Emily Makaleson (Alice Evans), the matriarch of the family, has returned, and there’s gonna be hell to pay. This series, which also stars Daniel Gillies, Claire Holt, and Charles Michael Davis, is available in both a three disc Blu-ray version and a five disc DVD version. This series seems to be heating up, so it’s best to be getting in while the getting’s good.
Well, that’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Please feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.
Until next time…
