BluTuesday - August 6, 2013

Hey, folks! Joseph here, and I’ve got the newest stuff in Bluray for August 6, 2013. In this week’s episode, we have Tom Cruise, the Catholic mafia, and the most entertaining college in the world. Ready to roll? Let’s roll!

Oblivion (PG-13)

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 54%

Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the visionary director of Tron: Legacy and producers of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind. This movie is being released in both a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. I’m not even gonna kid anyone here; I love this movie. It was so much fun to experience in theaters, and it will be just as much fun to see at home. The scenery is gorgeous, the acting is top-notch, and the score is phenomenal. This is my pick of the week, hands down.

The Borgias: The Complete Third Season

The saga of history’s most infamous crime family continues as Pope Alexander conspires with his ruthless sons and poisonously seductive daughter to obtain untold wealth and power. Mercilessly cruel and defiantly decadent, intimidation and murder are his weapons of choice in his scandalous ascension to the papacy. In Season Three, Alexander clings desperately to power, relying on Cesare (Francois Arnaud) to exact revenge on his enemies and secure the family legacy. But Cesare is hellbent on his own rise, and at any cost, leading to an epic father-son struggle with Lucrezia (Holliday Grainger) as the reluctant pawn. This series comes in a variety of options: you have your standard three disc BluRay version and your three disc DVD version, but you also have the complete series in both a nine disc Bluray version and a nine disc DVD version. This show is deliciously wicked, and it’s certainly worth a look.

Community: The Complete Fourth Season

The Study Group returns from summer break ready to tackle their fourth year of Community College. Jeff (Joel McHale) is particularly focused on graduating and is just a few credits away. Meanwhile, Britta (Gillian Jacobs) helps Abed (Danny Pudi) deal with the anxiety he is experiencing over the thought of the study group graduating and breaking up. Chevy Chase, Alison Brie, Yvette Nicole Brown, Donald Glover and Ken Jeong also star. This series is only available on DVD, but it comes in a two disc set. I’m not a fan of comedies any more, but I’ve heard rave reviews for this show, so it’s worth checking out.

There you have it, folks; another week in the books. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss anything you wanted to talk about? Hit me up in the comments section below.
