The Mission
Gary (Adam Tsekhman) with the Time Bureau is tracking a time traveling assassin (Kuasa; Tracy Ifeachor) who nearly succeeds in taking out a woman named Zari Tomaz (Tala Ashe) while she’s being transported to prison by A.R.G.U.S. The Legends intercept his call for help and decide to take on the assassin on their own. This means obtaining Zari and using her as bait.
Zari agrees, but only if they’ll help her break her brother out of the meta-human prison she was being transferred to when Kuasa first attacked. That was just a ruse to get her hands on her brother’s totem, which gave him powers. A.R.G.U.S. killed him in a raid and Zari hopes to use the necklace to find and protect her parents if they’re still alive.
Meanwhile, Nate convinces Amaya to take an hallucinogen that triggers a spirit walk, hoping it will help her figure out how to control her powers. Amaya connects with an ancestor who advises her to embrace her power and not run from it now that it scares her. She’ll need it to protect someone special: Zari.
Except things will most likely get more complicated before it gets better: Zari agrees to travel with the Legends until they can figure out what Kuasa wants with her, but after a fight with Amaya, Kuasa reveals her own connection to Amaya.
Mission Report
I can’t help but think that Amaya has spent so much time worried that her time with the Legends will stop her from fulfilling her destiny, she might not realize that being with the Legends (specifically with Nate) might be part of the plan all along. And the look she gave him when his eyes were closed was adorable. Devising that crazy plan clearly meant a lot to her.
Speaking of Nate, watching him trip balls for the majority of the episode was a joy.
Bringing Zari aboard is great on so many levels, including adding a Muslim superhero to the mix and another woman. And just the small bit of fighting between Kuasa and Amaya leaves me anticipating more. Kuasa’s mysterious and already feels more threatening than Vandal Savage ever was.
I might need an episode or two break from Agent Sharpe. Gideon’s right: She’s such a bitch.
