Defiance - S2E5 - Put the Damage On

Previously on Defiance, ‘Beasts of Burden’

This episode did a fine job of pulling off something I should have seen coming. While the majority of the episode focused on Amanda’s hallucinations, seeing people that weren’t there like her rapist and an uncharacteristically mean Nolan, we got some scenes with Doc Yewll and an ex-girlfriend, who also turned out to be a hallucination. Pottinger and Yewll are using some kind of device on Amanda to extract a certain memory, but of what we have no idea.

Datak manages to worm his way back into his family by invoking some ancient rite of his people. Stahma compares it to “visitation rights.” Christie ain’t about that life, though. She tells her father-in-law what an ass he is and then bonds with the slutty DJ who tried to screw her husband. That won’t end well.

Some of the best scenes in the episode came from Rafe’s attempt to settle into life at the Tarr’s. He’s not down with the group baths, but that doesn’t stop Stahma from slinking into the tub with him and flirting/threatening him. You can never tell with that Stahma. Later, Datak also approaches Rafe and suggests an alliance so they can take back their town from the E-Rep.
