Review: Doctor Who - New Adventures w/ the 10th Doctor #2

The second issue of The New Adventures of the 10th Doctor is a strong follow-up to its perfect debut issue. The opening pages perfectly captured those first few moments when a new companion becomes acquainted with the Doctor.

If you’re going to travel with the Doctor, you gotta be able to keep up both physically and mentally. Thankfully for the two of them, Gabby is plenty smart and plays a key role in their escape from the creature in the subway. Later, after pulling the whole, “It’s best you forget you ever met me” routine, the Doctor explains what they’re dealing with: creatures who live in the psychosphere and feed off negative emotions.

Gabby gets an introduction to the Doctor’s compassion as he first tries to reason with the creatures who, quite frankly, ain’t tryna hear it. Once the Doctor figures out a way to stop them he entrusts Gabby with the responsibility of staying behind, holding off the people the creatures have taken control of, and keeping the portal open while he jumps through to shut down their power source.

No pressure, Gabby.

While this series has, so far, done an excellent job of tapping into the 10th’s behavior and manner of speaking, the issue did drag a tad when he was explaining things to Gabby. However, it did end on another amazing cliffhanger.
