Hunters - S1E3 - Maid of Orleans

Previously on Hunters, “Messages”

“Maid of Orleans” provided a fascinating look into Regan’s past. She was a little girl when her father revealed their true nature and a pot-smoking teen when someone (other Hunters from the look of it) arrived at her house and her father forced her to run. She was a dope-smoking, promiscuous-sex having young woman when Jackson found her, fully aware of who and what she was.

These memories plague Regan as she and the team head into the jungles of Colombia to chase down members of a drug cartel with connections to the Hunters. Surprisingly, Flynn sticks up for Regan when Briggs expresses concern with her coming along on the mission. Flynn also takes Regan’s side in convincing the local guns-for-hire escorting them through the jungle to see a young girl safely back home instead of leaving her to fend for herself after “a monster” takes her mother. Guess saving his life last week goes a long with with Flynn.

This mission also provides us a look into the protocol for civilians becoming aware of the existence of Hunters. Let’s just say the guns-for-hire didn’t make it out of the jungle, and they all weren’t killed by the Hunter they came across.

The team realizes the Hunters knew they were coming and killed people and destroyed evidence to mask whatever they were doing in the wild. This only makes Flynn more convinced of the mole Slovick warned him about - though Regan finds it ridiculous.

Flynn also seems to have come around on the idea that his wife is a Hunter. Working so closely with Regan, and being unable to tell unless told, has him questioning the past six years of his life with Abby.

The team eventually ignores an order to stand down and chooses to follow the new form of Hunter they encountered.

Comparisons to the movie Predator are inevitable with this episode, and it delivers the same terrifying chills as it becomes clear the team are not the hunters, but are being hunted. The final moments of the episode when Regan comes face-to-face with a wounded Hunter were the perfect cliffhanger.
