We’re back ,little devils! Lucifer has been gone since January, but Lucifer’s only been missing for two weeks. That’s still long enough for him to return to town with a new wife, Candy, guest star Lindsey Gort (The Carrie Diaries).

Candy Morningstar is the complete opposite of Chloe Decker. She’s a blonde stripper – I’m sorry, exotic dancer, that Lucifer married in Vegas. She’s also extremely sweet and kind of endearing so you can’t help but like her. Luckily for Chloe it’s not Candy she wants to be mad at, it’s Lucifer. While he’s trying to return to work, Chloe is freezing him out of the case. Ironically, now that Chloe is mad at Lucifer, everyone else at the precinct is on Lucifer’s side because of how he risked everything to save Chloe. Even Dan helps Lucifer get back on Chloe’s good side by pointing him to leads and stepping out of the way so Lucifer can pair up with Chloe.

Eternal Flame

As Lucifer is trying to rebuild his partnership with Chloe, The Mother is trying to figure out why Lucifer left and got married. For The Mother, Lucifer’s attraction to Candy is even more baffling than his connection to Chloe, but she feels genuinely remorseful when she comes to the conclusion that Lucifer’s marriage is a byproduct of how she manipulated him. Amenadiel, always the dutiful son, steps in to chastise Lucifer for pushing Chloe away and making their mother believe she’s broken him.

Lucifer is pushing Chloe away because he wants to protect her from realizing that their connection is part of some grand scheme by God. The recognition that he’s manipulating Chloe for her own good like his mother did to him, does break some of the tension between Lucifer and his mother but we also see that Lucifer’s marriage to Candy wasn’t just to turn Chloe off; it’s also to con his mother into giving up her plan to return to heaven. She thinks with Azrael’s blade aka The Flaming Sword, they can return to the Silver City and really fight God and the other angels to take the throne of heaven. For right now, it doesn’t seem like Lucifer has any plans to return to heaven but finally knowing his mother’s plan may help him be a step ahead for once.

The Devil Is Laughing

“Wanna go splitsies on a nanny?” – Lucifer, talking to Chloe about what to do with his new wife.

“Lucifer has outdone himself” – Maze looking at Candy’s ass.

Despite taking such a long break, Lucifer still managed to come out swinging. The relationship between Chloe and Lucifer is still complex and a little dark, but this episode brought much needed levity. Lindsey Gort was outstanding as Candy Morningstar and the reveal that she was a con woman made it even better. Hopefully, Candy will make a reappearance and not as a corpse because this show is fond of killing humans Lucifer is friends with. Right now it seems highly unlikely that we’ll see an angel war in heaven but the show is definitely giving the impression that it’s going to happen at some point. The Mother is committed to regaining her place in heaven so it will probably happen. With just five episodes to go, we’ll see.
