Matt Smith Reportedly Playing Major Role in New Terminator Trilogy
Matt Smith, he of Doctor Who fame, has reportedly joined the cast of the upcoming Terminator reboot trilogy in a role that will be minor in the first film and grow significantly in the sequels.
Deadline is reporting the casting news; while it’s not confirmed, it would make sense that this would be the big news Matt Smith fans were primed for yesterday, when Smith’s trainer tweeted-and, apparently, subsequently deleted-a prediction that #MattSmith would be trending “by midnight”. It’s great to see the Eleventh Doctor land such a significant role.
Although we don’t yet know what Smith’s role will entail, we do know he is joining an already stellar cast that includes Emilia Clarke (Sarah Connor), Jason Clarke (John Connor), Jai Courtney (Kyle Reese), Dayo Okeniyi (Danny Dyson), J.K. Simmons, Byung-hun Lee; and, of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger. So far, this trilogy is bringing together three major fandoms: Terminator, Game of Thrones (with Emilia Clarke and director Alan Taylor); and now, with the addition of Matt Smith, Doctor Who.
Terminator: Genesis, directed by Alan Taylor, is currently filming and is scheduled to destroy the box office on July 1, 2015.
