Matthew’s ProFan Review: The Art of Thief
Welcome back, ProFans! I’ve got another art book for you. This is The Art of Thief. While the game got some not-so-flattering reviews on other sites, the book on the other hand-great stuff. The foreword by Nicolas Cantin, the Game and Art Director for Thief gives you a setup of what to expect.
Every chapter details a specific character or a type of enemy within the world of Thief. In contrast to the other art books I’ve reviewed, this book included production notes on the various game mechanics and features. One section details the possible take downs in the game and movement of Garrett, the playable character.
Now, I’m more of a science fiction, cyber-punk themed kind of guy, but the steampunk, Victorian Era style of this game may have converted me. The signage, the setting, all were inspired by the industrial revolution. Anyone who’s played Dishonored or seen the Sherlock Holmes movies with Robert Downey Jr. will feel a sense of familiarity.
After looking through this book, I’m probably going to give this game a run-through. It might not have gotten great reviews, but the shadows seem so inviting.
