By All That’s Holy: More News on the Casting of Starz’s American Gods
The hits keep on rolling in! Starz and FreemantleMedia North America announced additional casting news for the extremely anticipated adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s beloved novel American Gods. The roles of Mad Sweeney, Bilquis and Technical Boy will be portrayed by Sean Harris (“Borgias”, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation), Yetide Badaki (“Masters of Sex”, “Sequestered”) and newcomer Bruce Langley.
The Hugo/Nebula/Stoker award-winning novel centers on the mundane lives of gods both old and new and the secret war that’s brewing between them. In the middle of the chaos is Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), a rogue with a controversial past who works for Mr. Wednesday, an enigmatic figure who is preparing for the inevitable conflict. The three gods - two old and one new - long for the days when they were worshipped and glorified by a populace that was far less shrewd and discerning compared to today’s generation.
Harris will portray Mad Sweeney, a leprechaun who’s occasionally employed by Mr. Wednesday when he requires muscle. Badaki is cast as Bilquis, an ancient personification of love who craves the ceaseless adoration from centuries past. Lastly, Langley is Technical Boy, the living embodiment of today’s rapacious desire for the newest, fastest tech. Quick on the draw and not exactly the most mature god, Technical Boy aims to earn the respect of the other gods.
American Gods begins filming in April. For additional production news, follow @AmericanGodsSTZ, @STARZ_Channel and @FMNATV on Twitter. Don’t forget us at @ProjectFandom as well!
