New Concept Art for Captain America: The Winter Soldier
The Marvel Phase 1 Boxset was released today, and it brought with it a sneak peak at all things Phase 2; this included new conceptual artwork for the Captain America: The First Avenger sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
First we have a look at what The Falcon may look like.
You can see that it looks pretty cool, however, we have to hope they throw at least some red in there, right? I mean, his costume was kind of inspired by his pet falcon Redwing… which is red. I know The Falcon was the first mainstream African-American superhero, but that doesn’t mean he needs to be decked out in all black. Anyway, it does look cool and modern… just needs red.
Next, there’s a look at the potential character design for Winter Soldier:
Let’s all take a moment to hope this stopped at “concept”. While it definitely makes old Bucky Barnes look mysterious, it also has too much of a “David Hasselhoff as the shitty version of Nick Fury” feel. Plus, where’s his bionic arm? Maybe it’s under the jacket, but that arm doesn’t seem nearly bulky enough. Am I nitpicking? Yes. Is this admittedly “concept art”, which means the finished product could be completely different? Absolutely. However, what else am I supposed to do? We’re still a year away from the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and we simply can’t wait!
