New Doctor Who Season 8 Trailer
In classic Super Bowl fashion, as Germany was squeaking out a victory over Argentina in the 2014 World Cup Final, BBC decided to drop the latest trailer for the upcoming eighth season of Doctor Who.
Absent of leaked scripts, footage, or other spoilers, we have yet to have a proper, full introduction to Peter Capaldi’s 12th Doctor, but with each successive glimpse we’re given, it becomes more and more clear that this incarnation of the Doctor will not be the lovable goofball of Matt Smith’s 11th; it, instead, will continue the darker path Smith so brilliantly shepherded the character down, in the later moments of the Eleventh’s existence. It looks like Capaldi’s turn in the iconic role will bring the series back around to the seriousness and stern-faced season of Christopher Eccleston’s 9th Doctor. For some fans, like me, that would be a welcome return; for others, not so much.
What I’m most interested in seeing in this season, outside of finally getting a real feeling of Capaldi as the Doctor, is Jenna Coleman’s evolution as Clara Oswald, the Doctor’s impossible girl. I’ve been a fan throughout, but she-both the actress and the character-ultimately won a lot of fans over in “The Time of the Doctor“, so I can’t wait to see where she goes and where her relationship with the Doctor ends up, especially with this darker turn of the series.
