‘Tis the Season: Project Fandom’s New Fall Series Suggestions

Right about now, every major and cable network is readying to unleash a hell of a lot of television at us poor saps. Considering the multitude of channels many of us watch and the growing number of original programming being developed across the board, not even a 4 channel DVR has much of a chance to stay caught up. Not to make matters worse, Project Fandom has scoured the litany of new series premiering this Fall season and condensed it into 10 choices that we believe you’ll not want to miss.

In any case, make yourself a cup of tea, pull on your animal print Snuggie, sit back and eat all the pumpkin spice products you can because the 2016 Fall TV season is off to a quick start.

Atlanta | Premiere: September 6 | Network: FX

From the mind of Donald Glover, FX’s latest drama centers on two cousins who are putting their all into making it in Atlanta’s rap scene. One a college drop-out, the other a star on the rise, both strive to succeed yet clash frequently with their opposing views on career paths. Along with their creative differences, the duo must deal with family drama, leeches who try to cling on their way to the top, and the everyday hater.

The Exorcist | Premiere: September 23 | Network: FOX

Be prepared to see a number of classic films adapted for the small screen this season, beginning with this unlikely series. Thankfully, this version of The Exorcist is merely inspired by William Peter Blatty’s novel and isn’t a faint recreation of the original film directed by William Friedkin. Rather, a new family - the Rances - are being threatened by a demonic presence that inhabits their youngest daughter. It’s up to two priests, one inexperienced in such matters and the other shattered by them, to exorcise the beast before it consumes them all.

Luke Cage | Premiere: September 30 | Network: Netflix

Quite possibly more anticipated than Netflix and Marvel Studios’ first collaboration Daredevil, Luke Cage continues to fight the good fight and make headway with boots-on-the-ground warfare his more austere compatriots *coughcoughTonyStarkcough* can’t accomplish. Since his first appearance in the Marvel Universe in 1972, Cage has maintained a cult following and grown more in popularity thanks to his inclusion in the Avengers by writer Brian Michael Bendis. Now a full-fledged member of the MCU, Cage is ready to clean up the streets the only way he knows how.

Westworld | Premiere: October 2 | Network: HBO

Inspired from the 1973 film directed by Michael Crichton, this version of Westworld - spearheaded by producer JJ Abrams - transports a new generation of viewers to the sprawling marvel of Delos and its three “worlds”. Though it had been a source of amusement for the thousands who could afford Delos’ services, their androids begin to suffer severe malfunctions across the facility. These systemic errors however indicate the “toys” are starting to grow beyond their programming.

Falling Water | Premiere: October 13 | Network: USA

Created by legendary producer Gale Anne Hurd, Falling Water chronicles the journeys of three persons in the conscious and unconscious realms as they discover they can enter one another’s dreams. While delving deeper into their abilities, they learn secrets that have been repressed by mysterious forces, and how a child one didn’t know she had could be the key to humanity’s survival.

Chance | Premiere: October 19 | Network: Hulu

Executive produced by Kem Nunn and based on his novel of the same name, Hulu’s latest original series centers on Dr.Eldon Chance, a troubled forensic neuropsychologist who falls for a woman with multiple personality disorder. Unfortunately for the embattled doctor, his patient’s ex-husband is the jealous type and a corrupt Oakland homicide detective. With help from another patient of his, Chance prepares a counter-attack against not only the cop, but Eldon’s increasingly unstable lover.

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency | Premiere: October 22 | Network: BBC America/Netflix

Adapted from beloved author’s Douglas Adams’ series of novels, the eponymous hero (of sorts) travels across time and space in search for the interconnectivity in all things. Concurrently, Dirk attempts to solve a violent murder and kidnapping, and find a lost cat too. Caught in the mix are a gaggle of eccentrics and historical figures as well as a recently sacked bell boy who has a far greater destiny than he realizes.

Cast: Samuel Barnett, Elijah Wood, Hannah Marks, Jade Eshete, Aaron Douglas | Trailer

Stan Against Evil | Premiere: November 2 | Network: IFC

Written and produced by comic Dana Gould, Stan follows the misadventures of the titular character after he’s unceremoniously replaced as Sheriff of a small New England town. Unfortunately for Stan and the new law dog, the two must team up to battle supernatural forces that terrorize their town. Understandably so, seeing as it was founded atop a site where witches were burned. Whoops.

Incorporated | Premiere: November 30 | Network: Syfy

In the not too distant future, corporations have taken over the world and divided the populace into the haves (the Green Zone) and the have nots (the Red Zone). One man is attempting to shake this system to its core by infiltrating the Green Zone and working his way up the corporate ladder. Along the way, he discovers a sordid life of intrigue, subterfuge and treachery that proves far more threatening than anything he could have faced on the outside.

Cast: Sean Teale, Allison Miller, Eddie Ramos, Dennis Haysbert, Julia Ormond | Trailer

The OA | Premiere: 2016 | Network: Netflix

Like the breakout hit that was Stranger Things, Netflix has been quietly developing another new series, helmed by indie auteurs Zal Batmanglij and Brit Marling. Next to nothing is known about the series - which is expected to be released before year’s end. Given the media company’s track record and the names attached, The OA has everything working in its favor to become a successful series despite a lack of promotion.
