New to Netflix: September 2012

Good day, my friends!  Joseph here, and I’ve got the latest and greatest from the land of Netflix Instant Streaming.  Much like last time, I’ll be giving the release date, title, original year of release, and Netflix rating – if it’s available. So, let’s get it on!

9 /1 - The Mummy (1932) – Released in 1932, this was part of what would be known as the Universal Monsters series. It starred Boris Karloff as Imhotep, a mummified Egyptian priest, who is revived when a group of archaeologists inadvertently wake him up. Imhotep’s goal in his reincarnated life is to revive his lost love Anhk-es-en-amon. The movie is considered a classic, not in a horror sense, but in a film-going sense. It’s certainly worth a look.

9/1 – The Thing (1982)

9/1 – Titan A.E. (2000)

9/1 – Highlander (1986)

9/1 – The Musketeer (2001)

9/1 – Nine to Five (1980) – Starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton, amd Dabney Coleman, this movie is the story of three women who seek to get rid of their company’s autocratic, “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot” boss. The movie was a riot, and it is so much fun to watch.  I had honestly forgotten that Jane Fonda was in this, but the images of Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton are etched in my memory forever. That may be a bit scary, but it’s true.

9/1 – The Omen (1976)

9/1 – The Haunting (1999)

9/1 – The Hit List (2010)

9/6 – Marley (2012) – This is a documentary of the legendary late reggae artist. It contains the music we all love, as well as a look into the life he lead until he died of cancer in 1981. It has stories from his family and friends as they recount the best and worst of Bob Marley’s life. If you’re a music lover, or you find his story fascinating, this is the movie for you.

9/19 – What’s the Worst That Could Happen? (2001)

9/24 – White Chicks (2004)

9/27 – Headhunters (2011)

So, this is what we have to look forward to in September. Any of these get your motor running? Did I miss anything? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time…

  1. I was just looking for the first Highlander last month. I’m definitely going to watch that. Also, I don’t think I’ve ever seen the 1982 The Thing. I loved 9 to 5 when I was a kid. I’ll watch that again. Thanks, @joseph!

  2. I think I may cry and scream, all at the SAME.DAMN.TIME! Nine to Five is one of my top 10 favorite flicks. It’s now on Netflix. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Okay, okay…calm down. I bout to watch right now.

    Thanks, Joseph!

  3. Happy to help, y’all.

Also, I’m kicking myself because I missed an easy joke in this one:
“What’s the Worst That Could Happen?”
    This movie.

  4. I can’t wait to watch 9 to 5 again - love that movie. And, of course, that song is going to be playing in my head all day now. As well as the image of Lily Tomlin a la Snow White.

  5. Just watched the Marley Doc and it was excellent, and you can’t go wrong with the 1976 version of the Omen…excellent!
