G’Win has only been Bren’in for a few days and she’s had to deal with the imminent return of Blackburg’s finest, a missing prisoner responsible for killing the last Bren’in, a new clan in need of shelter, constant second-guessing from her own people. Now, add to that Big Foster’s return from the dead and a fence restricting the clan to the mountain. Yet, she’s still doing better than the current president of the United States.

Big Foster claims to have seen the light and asks for forgiveness of banishment. G’Win doesn’t trust him, but eventually agrees to keep him around because she’ll need him. She knows Big Foster still has clan loyal to him so it’s a calculated risk that working with him squashing dissension; she just better hope Big Foster is being genuine. Of course, no one is more opposed to Big Foster remaining than Hasil, who makes it clear to Big Foster he still can’t stand his ass.

Big Foster delivered a bigger shock when he prayed over Asa’s grave and referred to him as “my boy” when his men tried to talk bad about him. He can’t be Asa’s daddy. Can he?

Wade also received surprise cooperation from Hayley Grimes  (Francie Swift) when she falsifies Breece’s employment record so Ledda (Rebecca Harris) can receive health insurance to help fight her cancer. However, after Wade exhausts all of his option to obtain Ledda’s $130K co-payment, she informs her brother that has no intention of receiving treatment.

Lil Foster becomes an easy target in prison before and after he tries to escape. I’m not sure why anyone would want to fuck with this man.

Sally Ann’s dilemma was one of the most realistic depictions of what it’s like to be young and pregnant with no support. Money and distance make it nearly impossible for her to obtain an abortion. She’s a young, black girl and people aren’t exactly lining up to adopt brown infants - that’s assuming she survives what her brother might do if she decided to keep the baby. He does find out after finding the box for the pregnancy test. I can’t believe she didn’t bury that thing a mile away.

Sally Ann flees his wrath, and sits alone in an alley contemplating suicide. When she can’t bring herself to drink bleach, she tearfully drives her brother’s car off the rod. This is how hopeless she feels. This is what it’s like for a young girl of color with little to no options. She thinks death would be preferable to anything society has in store for her. It was a heartbreaking sequence and Christina Jackson was fantastic.

Outsiders occasionally dips its toes in the supernatural waters, and we got a taste of it when the mysterious forest girl appears besides Sally Ann’s crashed car and escorts her deeper into the woods.
