Patti’s ProFan Review: The Wolf Among Us

Snow White, Bigby Wolf, and Ichabod Crane

My beau gifted me a Steam game for my birthday that he thought I’d like, and hot damn, was he right. The Wolf Among Us by Telltale Games, is a point and click graphic adventure game based on the comic series Fables. I’m not familiar with the comic itself, but I’m suddenly intrigued. Although this series supposedly takes place 30 years prior to the first Fables comic.

The characters in the game – such as Snow White, the Big Bad Wolf, Beauty, and the Beast – have fled from their homeland to a new world they created in America known as Fabletown. To hide their real identities from humans, they appear in human form. The Big Bad Wolf has reformed and goes by the name of Bigby Wolf and is now the Sheriff of Fabletown.

The player is in control of Bigby Wolf. I won’t give away the storyline, but it’s a choose your own adventure game, and the options you choose change the outcome of the game. What’s been released of the game so far took me about 2 hours to complete, but the game is episodic, so it will continue on in the future. So far, there’s only one episode titled “Faith,” but there are four more labeled as “coming soon.”  I’m excited about it. This game is fun and creative, gameplay is smooth, and the graphics are pretty amazing. There’s also a pig smoking a cigarette.

About Patti Matteucci (265 Articles)
Patti Matteucci plays in an imaginary band in Illinois where she rocks the mic like a vandal while simultaneously cooking MCs like a pound of bacon. She is into most nerdy things but doesn’t excel enough in any to be labeled a nerd. One of her top skillz is scouring the internet for recipes, printing out a big pile, and then throwing them away before ever trying them when she remembers that you can have food made and delivered to your front door by somebody else. She is a 14 year old trapped inside a 33 year old’s body (or maybe also a 14 year old’s body) with an unabashed love for Justin Bieber and far too much time spent marrying celebrities in Sims 3.

  1. I loved the reactive nature of this game; how it changes based on your actions. The art is awesome, too. I don’t watch Once Upon a Time, but I thought this seemed like something that would be right up the alley of anyone who watches that show.
