Patti’s ProFan Review: The Wolf Among Us - Episode 2 - Smoke and Mirrors
Back in December, I reviewed “Faith“, the first episode of the point-and-click adventure game, The Wolf Among Us.
The second episode, “Smoke and Mirrors“, was released February 4. It picks up where episode 1 left off. Bigby is investigating a series of horrifying murders… and that’s all the plot I’m gonna give. A few new characters are introduced: Jack (of the beanstalk incident), Georgie (who runs the Pudding and Pie strip club), and The Little Mermaid, who is now a stripper. Because, of course. The girl ran around in a bra. It was only a matter of time.
There’s a lot of the sleazy underground in this episode. Strip clubs, sex-for-hire, boobie shots. This is definitely a deeper, darker episode than the first. Way more intense, better dialogue. There’s twists and turns, lies and betrayal! I loved it! My only complaint is the length. Or rather, the lack of length. It probably took about an hour to play through it all. It was done before I knew it, and I couldn’t believe it was already over. It’ll be another few months before the next episode comes out, but I’d say it’s definitely worth the wait.
I preferred to play Wolf as a more sensitive soul this time around, by choosing the more compassionate responses and avoiding the more violent actions. I’m not sure why, but I wonder if it has anything to do with my “lady cycle”. But whatever it is, I do like the option to delve into this side of Bigby. I’d be interested in going back and replaying as an unrestrained Bigby to see how differently the game plays out. It would certainly fit in with the darker theme of this episode.
So, if you’re into this game, get this episode; you won’t regret it. If you’re not into it, get into it, or I might have to reconsider our relationship.
