Project Fandom at 4 Pillars Gaming Convention
The last time we featured an article on 4 Pillars Hobby Shop, it was a budding social group for tabletop gaming and hobbies. At the time, the Hawaiian gaming hub was a weekly Sunday hangout with smaller, unofficial tournaments for classic card games. By “classic”, I mean: Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokemon; and the granddaddy of them all, Magic: The Gathering.
In the time that falls just short of its first year this July, 4 Pillars has gone from a weekly meet-and-geek to a full-fledged store which, just last week, hosted its first-ever gaming convention at the King Kamehameha Hotel in Kailua-Kona. For a small business in Hawaii appealing to a very particular niche, this is nothing short of impressive.
At what was dubbed the 4 Pillars Gaming Convention, the state tournaments for both Cardfight! Vanguard and Yu-Gi-Oh! were held. While these tournaments were the focus, they were not the only events taking place. The 4 Pillars Hobby Shop made sure to reach out to all hobbyists. Warhammer 40,000, cosplay panels, board games, and a Super Smash Bros. tournament all rounded out the event. The best thing about the con was, at each of its sections, there was a staffer who knew the ins and outs of their area.
Take a look at a gallery of images from the convention below:
It was a resounding success for the first 4 Pillars Gaming Convention, and though it didn’t go without a few hiccups, it can at least be said this was not another Dashcon.
