Sailor Moon is Coming to Hulu

As an anime fan, this news makes me incredibly happy.

Viz Media has acquired the North American rights to Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (known in the United States as Sailor Moon), and have made plans to stream all 200 episodes via Hulu/Hulu Plus and Viz’s own streaming platform NeonAlley.com. The company will also be bringing the season “Sailor Stars” to North America for the first time; audiences previously only got to see everything up to “Sailor Moon SuperS,” but the gender-bending stars of “Sailor Stars” was deemed to controversial for American audiences. The shows will initially be subtitle-only, but the plan is to eventually release a new English dub. The company will release the first two episodes on Monday, with each subsequent Monday featuring two new episodes. Viz Media also has the rights to stream the new series Sailor Moon Crystal, which will begin airing in July.

As I mentioned in my review for Pacific Rim, I grew up an anime fan. What I didn’t mention is that one of my favorite anime series of all-time is Sailor Moon; in fact, it’s the show that got me back into anime after a long hiatus. For that reason alone, I’ll always be indebted to Sailor Moon, and I’ll also be watching with bated breath every Monday - I’m sorry; Moonday for the new episodes to air.
