Scream Queens - S2E1 - Scream Again
Previously on Scream Queens
Scream Queens returned to the airways Tuesday, September 20, 2016. This season’s coverage will be in 3 parts: premiere, mid-season summary and predictions, and end of season wrap up. While marketed as an anthology, Scream Queens is truly anthology-light. The same cast members are returning to their original roles in this second season.
What you need to know about season two
Where: CURE Clinic, a small hospital near Wallace University, run by “Dr.” Dean Munsch.
Who’s back
ZayDay, Dean Munsch, The Chanels, Hester, Denise, and Chad. The latter three characters are listed as guest and special guests this season, which means we are not getting enough of Special Agent Denise Hemphill and Chad.
New additions
Nurse Ingrid M. Hoffel (Kirstie Alley); Dr. Cassidy Cascade (Taylor Lautner); Dr. Brock Holt (John Stamos)
Why the addition of Stamos and Lautner?
“Dr. Brock Holt and Dr. Cassidy Cascade — both of which are just absurd names — and they wanted two actors who would appeal to guys that you’d want to have a drink with them and hang out with, but also that women would be excited for. John Stamos and Taylor Lautner really embody everything that we could want in this show. They’re pretty handsome guys, they both have terrific sense of comedic timing, they can pull their dramatic weight whenever it’s called upon them, they can both be heartthrobs and they can deliver the medical jargon. They both felt like perfect additions to the cast.” Variety- Terence Carter-EVP- Drama and Development at Fox
At the onset Stamos and Lautner are nothing more than welcome eye-candy; handsome, chemistry building, eye-candy. The season premiere features a very tan, and mostly naked, Stamos showering in front of our leading ladies. Nothing about that says “Let’s have a beer.”
How much time has passed
It’s been two-years since the events at Wallace University
Where are they now?
The Chanels were acquitted after Hester confessed on camera that she was the murderer. The trio made their way to various medical related jobs.
Dean Munsch is now the administrator of the CURE Clinic.
ZayDay finished college in two years. #blackgirlmagic She is working part-time while attending medical school.
The gang is brought back together under the roof of the hospital because Dean Munsch is invested in the success of the hospital and needs their expertise… I’ll allow it.
Denise Hemphill is now FBI Special Agent Denise Hemphill and was featured in the Netflix special: Entrap a Kappa Kappa: Murder on Sorority Row
How the show is different
In an effort to utilize the hospital as a character, this season will feature a medical case of the week.
The “killer”
The Green Meanie (born of folklore)- Much like The Red Devil, the killer wears a mask and cape, and is dressed ambiguously enough as to not know the gender of the killer. Halloween night 1985, Dr. Mike (Jerry O’Connell) donned the costume of The Green Meanie. On that fateful night Dr. Mike killed a patient who was “Going to die anyway.” The patient was dumped into lake behind the now CURE clinic, leaving behind a pregnant a very pregnant wife.
After one episode who do you think is the killer?
Right now I have my eyes set firmly on Cassidy Cascade, who I presume is the son of the patient murdered in 1985.
This season premiere did a nice job of updating the viewers on our favorites and the introduction of new characters. The sophomore premiere was not as strong as season 1 episodes 1 and 2, but it was plenty of fun for fans of the show. The premiere ended with a cliffhanger leaving one of the Chanels in peril, which is bold considering they didn’t get to killing anyone of note until the second half of the first season. I am not sure how they are going to maintain interest with this new, but very familiar feeling killer. My hope is they keep the wit and fun of season one but not completely recycle last season while featuring a new-ish killer.
