Black Cat really doesn’t like to be lied to. Or made a fool of. So, she returns the favor by allowing Cindy to think she’s being led into a S.H.I.E.L.D trap, but then uses stolen tech to teleport Cindy away for a beatdown.

Cindy tries to appeal to the good she saw in Cat while she takes her lumps, but to no avail. Not even Cindy’s offer to testify on her behalf can make Cat turn herself in. Cat manages to escape with one henchmen while the others are gathered up by S.H.I.E.L.D., and Cindy lies broken and beaten.

This has all been a long time coming, a result of Cindy’s often times reckless behavior - a fact she admits to herself. Her friends/co-workers (now fully aware of her superhero identity) have news on the search for Cindy’s family. This is something she would have known if she hadn’t blown them off.

Fortunately for Cindy, she still has one friend. Remember the mystery man she met in the sewers? Yeah. I’d forgotten about him, too. Well, after Cindy ignores his warnings not to meet with Cat, he rescues her from the literal dumpster fire that has become her life and reveals himself to be none other than her ex, Hector. Whoa.

While I still struggle to connect to Ford’s art, Thompson delivers another solid issue. Silk’s good name has been cleared in the press as S.H.I.E.L.D credits her undercover work with bringing down Cat’s crew. Cindy’s connection with Cat has been fascinating to explore and I’m glad we’re not done with her yet. The dialogue, as usual, was full of that signature Spider snarky humor. And the reveal at the end was great - didn’t see it coming at all. It gives the series a nice jolt and I’m dying to know how it ties in to Cindy’s missing parents.
