Silk #12 | Writer: Robbie Thompson | Artist: Tana Ford | Publisher: Marvel
Cindy and her co-workers, Lola and Rafferty, navigate the Negative Zone in hopes of finding Cindy’s parents. They find evidence that the couple camped out on one of the zone’s floating islands, and then skydived further into the abyss. Of course, they follow.
This issue takes us way outside of anything we’ve seen in the series thus far. Sure, Silk hopped from different dimensions trying to stay ahead of the Inheritors, but the Negative Zone is like the most trippy of those dimensions times infinity.
Their journey leads them to a medieval land with flying dragons overhead. Thankfully, Silk can fashion the trio attire to fit in out of her webbing. A talking dragon recognizes their other worldly scent as the same as another trio that traveled there before them. It instructs Silk to consult with The Red Knight for more answers.
Unfortunately, the Red Knight is embroiled in an epic battle against the Ash King’s forces, and it’s not looking good. With the help of the dragon, Silk and her friends turn the tide of the battle (Khaleesi-style) and Silk is finally able to have a word with the Red Knight, also known as her mom.
This issue wasn’t my favorite. It was a jarring departure from the more realistic locations and encounters we’re used to. Still, the interactions between Cindy and her friends was funny as hell, and it was great seeing them be so supportive and brave. I am looking forward to hearing the story behind how Cindy’s mom became The Red Knight. I bet it’s a doozy.
