The Messengers - S1E2 - Strange Magic
Previously on The Messengers, ‘Awakening’
Still scratching your head after last week’s series premiere of The CW’s The Messengers? Just have faith – see what I did there – because, despite leaving you with more questions, Friday’s all new episode ‘Strange Magic’ does not keep you in the dark for long. This episode is set to bring all of the angels together and one of them is, in fact, an atheist.
Thanks to Rose - the nurse who was shot seven years ago and remains in a coma until tonight - many questions that the premiere offered were answered. After waking up from the coma, preventing Vera from killing her, and bringing the group together, it is revealed that Rose is also one of The Messengers; however, she’s a bit different from the others. When she comes back, she knows exactly what it is that they have to do. This is the ability she’s been given. While everyone else is confused by what’s going on, she has been gifted to understand their mission. The mission, loosely based on the Book of Revelations, involves preventing the Rapture by halting the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. I’d believe anything she said if she knew my name after being in a coma for seven years. However, there was bound to be someone who has trouble believing this. That person: our one and only atheist, Vera.
Still haunted by the disappearance of her son, who went missing as an infant, Vera does not have time for anything that’s even remotely related to God. There are more important things to worry about. Vera has to find out where her son is, figure out the mystery behind the meteor - which has mysteriously disappeared as well, of course, and find a new job. The odds do not seem to be in your favor, sweetheart. However, Joshua can be of help when it comes to finding her son seeing as he had a vision which ended with Vera being with the child. All they have to do is find a veteran who lost his arm in battle. Joshua and Vera spend the majority of this episode trying to find this man, but it won’t be easy with The Man messing with everything.
Meanwhile, the cops are on to Peter and know where he is thanks to his girlfriend. She called him and was apparently working with the police to trace his location. Raul and Erin are practically on the run from the cops at this point. After getting dropped off at his brother’s house, Raul discovers the house has been trashed. Blood for Blood is written in Spanish on the wall. His niece, Nadia, has been hiding in the closet the entire time. There appears to be more issues with Raul and his family seeing as Nadia seems to have a strong hatred for him.
It cannot be a coincidence that all of these events lead them to meet up once again. And Rose tries her best to convince the group that what she says is true. With the help of Joshua’s visions and the other powers they’ve been given, they must stick together to find The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who happen to be regular people - just like them. Except they may be easily swayed by the Devil to do his bidding – by the way, I hope I’m not the only one suspecting Vera to be a Horseman. The first one on their list: The Horseman of War. But more questions still need answering like: who are these four horsemen and who is the seventh angel?
As Joshua prophesied, the wheels of the Revelation have begun to turn, and these newly christened Angels of the Apocalypse may be the only hope of preventing the impending Rapture. Can they work together to pass the test and prove that humanity deserves to be saved?
