The Strain - S4E7 - Ouroboros

Previously on The Strain, “Tainted Love”

This week, The Strain made great strides in getting the band back together, though the reunion might be short lived thanks to the events at the end of the episode.

Eph and Alex make there way into New York just as Fet, Quinlan, and Roman arrive in Brooklyn with the nuclear warhead. The latter team needs to get the nuke onto Manhattan, while Eph reunites with Abe and Dutch.

Since Abe has been without the white during his time held by The Partnership, his years are catching up to him. The experiments they performed on him didn’t help. While Alex stays behind to take care of Abe, Eph and Dutch reach out to Gus in the hopes of obtaining the meds Abe needs. Gus is all too happy to help, offering up all the medical supplies they need without asking for anything in return. This doesn’t sit well with his business partner, Creem. Because no good deed goes unpunished, Gus is shamed by Abe when they return with the meds — the old man disapproves of Gus’ illegal activities when he could be helping defeat the Master — and Creem visits the Master hoping to strike a deal.

Creem offers to give up the location of Abe, Dutch, and Eph in exchange for complete control of the city’s black market and Roosevelt Island. When all you have to trade with the Master is information, you’re fucked. Creem learns this the hard way when the Master kills him and simply waits for him to turn so Creem — and his memories — will be a part of the strigoi’s collective consciousness. Sanjay has the unenviable task of removing Creem’s silver grill so he doesn’t burn up in his new strigoi state.

Eichorst and Creem arrive at the Abe’s hideout, with the former hoping to redeem himself for his earlier failures in capturing Abe. Decades worth of petty bubbles to the surface. After he kills Alex, Eichorst can’t help but to monologue, taunting Abe instead of killing him. This give Gus, newly committed to the cause after being properly shamed, enough time to save Abe. Of course, Cousin Red Shirt gets killed and it’s Abe who ends up saving Gus from Eichorst’s stinger.

Gripped up by Eichorst, Abe challenges his nemesis to finish him once and for all. Eichorst finally obliges, and begins to drain him. It doesn’t last long because Abe has taken the entire bottle of blood thinners Eph procured for him. This poisons Eichorst, who falls to his knees. One good monologue deserves another, so Abe goes in on Eichorst and then summons the Master to see through his henchman’s eyes so he can get some of that work, too. Finally, Abe beheads Eichorst, putting an end to one of the most entertaining rivalries in television history.

I’m going to miss all that old man petty.
