Review: The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #6

Previously in The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #5

In the midst of teaching Nancy to fight inside a squirrel suit, the bank is robbed again, this time by Hippo the Hippo. He’s exactly what you’d expect based on the name. A hippo in all his hippo-ness, only he speaks like a human. Before Doreen can come to the rescue, Hippo is being fought off by new heroes Chipmunk Hunk and Koi Boi. Hippo is robbing the bank because he had to leave the zoo after being turned into a semi-human and he eats 90 pounds of food a day and no longer eats for free. As always, Squirrel Girl uses her brain and not her brawn to solve the situation. She feels for him. This isn’t his fault and of course a man’s gotta eat. She convinces him that all he needs to do is look for a job with a demolition crew, knocking down buildings and smashing stuff up. He agrees to try this out, but promises if it doesn’t work he’ll be back to rob the bank.

Squirrel Girl 6 - Hippo the Hippo

Nancy pulls off Chipmunk Hunk’s mask and he is actually …. Tomas! Doreen’s crush from school. Koi Boi is also a classmate of theirs. They sit around talking for hours about their shared secret lives. Nancy is jealous that they all have super powers and can talk to a specific animal but she can’t. Doreen takes her to the zoo to see if some of the animals to see if any talk back to her. Monkeys, no. Elephants, no. Giraffes, no. A bunch of other animals, no, no, and no. While at the zoo, lions break out of their habitat and a squirrel in a costume comes in and saves the day. She quickly becomes known in the headlines as Girl Squirrel.

No one knows who she is, not even Doreen or any of her squirrels. But she doesn’t trust her. And she shouldn’t, because she sneaks into Peter Parker’s bedroom, whispers sweet nothings that no one can understand in his sleeping ear, and the next thing you know, New York City is on fire.

About Patti Matteucci (265 Articles)
Patti Matteucci plays in an imaginary band in Illinois where she rocks the mic like a vandal while simultaneously cooking MCs like a pound of bacon. She is into most nerdy things but doesn’t excel enough in any to be labeled a nerd. One of her top skillz is scouring the internet for recipes, printing out a big pile, and then throwing them away before ever trying them when she remembers that you can have food made and delivered to your front door by somebody else. She is a 14 year old trapped inside a 33 year old’s body (or maybe also a 14 year old’s body) with an unabashed love for Justin Bieber and far too much time spent marrying celebrities in Sims 3.
