The Walking Dead - S7E5 - “Go Getters” | Starring: Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, Lauren Cohan, Chandler Riggs, Melissa McBride, Lennie James, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Sonequa Martin-Green, Norman Reedus, Alanna Masterson, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton

“Go Getters” offered a reprieve from Negan, but not his brand of terrorism and intimidation. And to top it all off, Gregory’s (Xander Berkeley) back and he’s still a dick.

Maggie suffered a small placenta abruption, but she and the baby are fine. Dr. Carson (R. Keith Harris) advises that she remain at Hilltop for the remainder of her pregnancy in case she has any further issues. This works for everyone but Gregory, who worries that The Saviors will figure out Hilltop’s role in Alexandria’s attack on the outpost.

He’s not wrong to worry. Even though Simon (Steven Ogg) later implies that he will be the Hilltop’s Saviors contact to replace the people killed at outpost, it’s kind of hard to believe that Negan wasn’t aware his people had expected Gregory’s head before they were all killed. In fact, in “Knots Untie” they specifically said Negan killed two of them because of a “light” offering, and that they could have their other man back if they killed Gregory. Whether this is story inconsistency or Negan pretending to not know of Hilltop’s involvement, he sends Simon to make sure Hilltop’s still in line.

Gregory is still arguing with Jesus, Maggie, and Sasha about whether the women can stay when the Saviors arrive. He instructs Jesus to hide them in a closet while he puts on a show for Simon. He feigns surprise at the news of the outpost’s demise and accepts Simon has his new Lord and Savior. In an effort to remain in their good graces, Gregory leads Simon to the door he thinks hides Maggie and Sasha, but Jesus hid them elsewhere. Simon does take the case of scotch that was in the closet, and then makes Gregory kneel for good measure.

Back at Alexandria, Rick and Aaron head out for a few days to scavenge for supplies, while Michonne opts to search on her own. She’s on board with Rick’s plan to go along, but clearly still needs to work things out on her own in order to be comfortable with her decision. She explains to Carl that though she doesn’t think Rick’s way is right, she’s also not sure he’s wrong. Enid (Katelyn Nacon) also leaves without telling anyone where she’s going because she wants to see Maggie. These people are just a few days removed from losing two of their own and having Negan slide his dick down Rick’s throat, and they’re right back to doing the same foolishness.

Since Carl was unable to stop her from leaving, when he arrives in a car to flatten the walker that was about to kill her, Enid assumes he was coming out to find her. They travel to Hilltop on foot - and later roller skates. Despite sharing a kiss, Enid cannot stop Carl from going after Negan; his real reason for leaving the subdivision. So while she goes inside to see Maggie, Carl stows away in one of the Saviors’ truck - the one headed for Negan.

It’s painfully obvious Gregory is a weak leader (even he knows it, deep down), so it doesn’t take much for Jesus, Maggie, and Sasha to overrule him. Maggie’s right hook might have also been a great motivator. But there’s no way Gregory can be trusted. He’ll give them up in a heartbeat, especially if he finds himself falling out of a favor with the Saviors. For now, though, the women make themselves comfortable in their new home. Hilltop may be just what they need - a place without constant reminders of what they lost - to start grieving and find peace.

In the meantime, Sasha (like Carl) isn’t content to sit back and accept the new way of things. Jesus stows away in the same truck as Carl, attempting to fulfill his promise to Sasha that he’ll find out where Negan lives.

  1. For the podcast

I really liked this episode! The women were on point! We got a very hot Richonne kiss. Maggie punched Gregory and Jesus did some really cool karate! What’s not to like!

Clearly Maggie & Sasha are running things. Even while recovering from that placenta abrasion, Maggie still took care of things. Gregory doesn’t do jack shit and can’t even remember his own peoples names!! Smh. While foolhardy, it was sweet for Enid to go to them. Maggie’s the only parent she has left now.

I gotta say it. Enid and Carl are adorable. Skating is a very teen thing to do for a first date. And in case something bad happens to Carl while infiltrating Negan’s compound, at least he had a very sweet first kiss with his gf.

So do you think Carl & Jesus’ plan is gonna work? How soon will they be captured? Will they die? Well, clearly Carl ain’t dying. Tho Chandler Riggs did get into college so who’s the say. I’m not sure how successful this venture will be. But if anyone can escape from there, it’ll be Jesus. I have faith in Jesus. 😉 And I don’t think he’ll betray them.

Ok. As usual I’m getting long. Can’t wait to hear the podcast!

  2. For the podcast:

Ever since the end of last season I’ve been thinking that Negan knew about the connection between Alexandria and Hilltop, but now I’m thinking he doesn’t know but he might suspect something. Negan didn’t live at that outpost so it’s possible that the saviors that lived there made their own rules for Hilltop because it obvious that Negan doesn’t like to kill the leaders so he would not have sent those people back to kill Gregory. I also thought those roadblocks from the finale were the saviors blocking Rick and crew from going to Hilltop but I think Negan thought Rick was looking for the group the saviors captured which makes more sense than them sitting in the road waiting for the group to leave Alexandria. I liked this episode, but I obviously don’t have much to say about except it is making me rethink past events.
    P. S. the Richonne kiss was everything.

  3. FOR THE PODCAST

I know I said I wasn’t going to post until the season finale but why these little niggletts on rollerblades in the z-poc? Those shoes just fit huh? I hate teen romance so I’m hating on this. But excited for Coarl’s inside view of Mr. Negan’s neighborhood.

  4. For the Cast

I have issues here. I can’t even tell if I liked this episode or not. I mean I liked Sasha, Maggie, and HeySuess, but beyond that I’m stuck.

The random walker invasion and Enid just appearing tells me these people have zero security. The dumbasses just watching the horde enter had to be told to close the gate, and then just disappeared. In fact there’s a whole community here and only 3 people were on hand to handle the horde. Jesus is a fuckin Ninja though so that’s cool.

Fuck Greg btw. Man’s balls have been pickled and left on Negan’s desk. Can’t wait to see him meet Lucille.

I guess it’s a good thing they went Bean on Cooarl and said fuck the book age. This kid can almost buy tobacco. About the only thing I know I liked was him being me playing GTA and mowing shit down.

There was other goofiness but I’ve went on long enough.

  5. for the podcast:
    -Gregory a little bitch
    -carl gonna get it in
-my body is ready for a jesus/carl food truck ass whoopin’

  6. For the Podcast:

Watching Maggie continue to ignore everyone’s advice and keep asking Jesus if she could speak to the manager for an hour was annoying as fuck, but I actually enjoyed the WTF nature of this episode. I was like “I don’t get the point of this show and it’s casually racist in places. It’s like an episode of The Talking Dead”.

Hilltop was just letting in walkers and Enid like they were Star Labs or something. That said, I’m way more invested in Carl and Enid than I ever was with Gleggie. I’m actually glad to see Maggie kinda becoming a stronger character despite still being diagnosed with pregnancy - they’re gonna have so many babies, and no Tyreese to take care of any of them.

Finally, part of me really wants Sasha to move on from Abe and get with Jesus. Sure, she’s still grieving, but they work well together. And both look hot. I guess I can wait until next season for Jesus to try and climb her like a cross tho.

  7. For the Podcast:

It was nice to see Carl & Enid get to be teenagers for a few moments. We seldom get to exhale on this show so it was cool to relax and laugh with them. (What parent supervised the packing of rollerblades in a survival backpack, though?)

Jesus is such a fun character! Enjoyed his kung fu moves in that walkers at the gate sequence. I have given up on the idea that any of these communities believe in posting sentries (as odious as the Governor was, he had people at the gates 24/7). I pray they get Jesus a new wig, though, ’cause that donkey-hair thing sucks. Looking forward to his back story (and hope he kills traitor Spencer when the appropriate killing time comes.)

Michonne, Maggie, and Sasha are so bad ass. Wake up, kill zombies, mentor teens, work sh*t out.

    Looking forward to the podcast!

  8. Good episode-surprisingly upbeat to me
    Highlights
    1. Have 2 start w/the hair issues-Carl’s in particular-he needs a cut/style-that feathered 70s look isn’t working 4 me/Ditto Jesus-he needs something better than that fake looking wig.
    2. Abe & Glenn were laid to rest @ hilltop & not Alexandria?? Alexandria was home but i get it.
    3. Richonne😍 that kiss said it all-I love u/I got your back & the sweetest thing is he said thank u😍
    4. Enid/Carl skating down the street & the kiss-cute moments of young love-now Enid is @ hilltop & Carl is on his way 2 be captured by neagan. I have a feeling he & neagan may become kindred spirits. I liked that Enid reconnected w/Maggie & paid respect 2 Abe & glen via the balloons.
    5. Gregory aka punk ass mofo!!😡 Sasha & Maggie individually & collectively could kick his spineless a$$ & take over hilltop. In the scene w/the savior I thought he was protecting their location instead but he planned 2 turn them over. Kudos 2 Jesus for moving them to a new hiding place.
    6. Maggie is bad ass! -she’s handling a difficult pregnancy, grieving Glenn yet when it was time to act,she took control of that tractor to help take out the walkers. Cherry on top was when she punched Gregory & told him to call her Maggie Rhee (like destinys child-say my name) She should’ve kicked him in the family jewels for good measure-w/ his sleazy a$$! 😡
Thats all I have-looking forward to the podcast.

  9. I may not be the biggest fan of Maggie or Sasha but I found myself really liking this episode. Glad Jesus and Carl are getting their comic stuff and I’m actually interested in what happens with Tara and Heath. Enjoying this season

  10. I love the bad ass courage of Carl, but come on man. How does this make sense? You, just you, you alone Carl are going to kill Neegan on his home turf surrounded by saviors? Please. I am curious to see if Jesus will be able to talk some sense into him. And now no one back at Alexandria even knows that Carl and Enid left so you know they are going to go look for them. Do y’all think the saviors know about Hilltop’s plan with Alexandria? Because why else did they need to teach them a lesson? Finally Gregory is clearly a Trump supporter and a despicable grave robber to boot. Love you guys 🙂

  11. For the podcast: I enjoyed this episode for the most part. What I took issue with was Carl and Enid. This kiss and the hand holding was cute and everything but as far as them going on a little trip to the hilltop-No, just no. I don’t even know why Carl followed her if his real intention was to find Negan’s camp and kill him. For 1, he has no guns, and his ass needs to stay at home and work on his aim. I’m still not sure how he even managed to hit those walkers with the car, wouldn’t his perception be off? Anyways, the writers completely missed an opportunity in this episode. If you’re gonna have your characters put on roller skates, at least make it more entertaining than a slow-mo Nicholas Sparks scene and have them fight some walkers on those things. The gifs and reactions that would have inspired…(sigh). Maybe I’m in the minority but I agreed with Gregory just a little bit in the beginning when he wanted Maggie and Sasha to leave. The group did take half their stuff on the agreement that they would take care of Negan and his crew and they didn’t deliver on their part, so now his ass and the hilltops are on the line. If he wasn’t such as perverted dick, I’d be more on his side but we all know he deserved that punch from Maggie and them some. Do you think the writers are saying that Negan found out about Rick and crew all on his own and made a guess that they conspired with the hilltop? Because it looks Gregory didn’t say anything and I don’t think Jesus did either. That it for me, can’t wait to hear the podcast. <3 Hope you have a happy Thanksgiving! if you're celebrating it, if not have a great week!

  12. Oh my gosh. I literally forgot Walking Dead was even on last night (Westworld!!) until I saw this, haha!! I am SO over this show (still loving and listening to the podcast though! 😘💕💜) Ps. You can or can not read this on the podcast. I just thought it was funny and thought you might too!

  13. Hey girl! FOR THE PODCAST:

Shout out to Rick being forgiven for the snot bubble! Michonne gave him the love of a black woman again! I know Carl better be home before the street lights come on, y’all noticed she went into black motherhood mode with him. I kinda want a scene with Enid talking to Sasha and Maggie about boys and what to do with her feelings for Carl. I hope we get a similar scene with Carl and that wily ninja White Jesus too. Because they were kids when this popped off- they’ve probably never dealt with the opposite sex before.

I’m learning to keep it short so that’s all I got for now!!

  14. For the podcast

I see Sasha Fierce & the crew starting to get in formation and I’m so here for it. We can see the slow buildup to a huge confrontation with the Saviors. I’m over the Saviors but anticipating seeing our team go into beast mode makes it all worth it. TWD has been good at showing our team go hard on their enemies, and this is their biggest threat so far, so it better be lit.

First time feedback! You guys are awesome. Y’all have added so many words to my everyday vocabulary: “lit”, “I’m here for it”, “why Sway?”. I love it!

  15. For the podcast

How many people actually knew what Maggie looks like? Negan, maybe fake Daryl. It was really dark and Maggie doesn’t have any memorable features. I figure she can walk around without being noticed unless Negan magically appears and even then I don’t think he can pick her out of a line up
