Wincon 2015 - Back to the Future
Pittsburgh, PA - November 30, 2014 - Wincon invites you to attend our 10th anniversary convention October 15-18, 2015 at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh. Registration is open now through Indiegogo: igg.me/at/wincon.
Wincon is a fans only multi-fandom con that visits a different city in the US every October. It features panels, workshops, and roundtables on a wide variety of topics, both fandom-specific and multi-fandom. All programming is proposed, voted on, and created by our attendees. Our special events include a Thursday night mixer to kick things off, a vid show, Bad Fic Idol (where participants compete to create the worst story possible in 400 words or less), and our popular Saturday night dance party. Our raffle is another big draw, with all proceeds benefitting microfinancing site kiva.org. Wincon strives to be a safe and inclusive space for fans of all races, gender identities, orientations, and abilities. Bottom line, Wincon is a whole weekend of fandom fun with fellow geeks. What could be better?
We’ve previously had about 100 attendees a year, but this size is no longer sustainable, so we’re trying to grow a bit. Our goal for 2015 is 250-300 attendees. To make sure that the interest and funding is there for a con of this size, we’re running an Indiegogo campaign. The campaign runs through January 4, and if we don’t make our goal, we will have to cancel the event. A weekend pass is just $55, or you can choose from several add on options. If you would like to support us but can’t attend, we also have a variety of other perks available including limited edition art made just for the campaign and custom-made items from some of fandom’s best loved creators.
Wincon is an event with nearly 10 years of history behind it. We want to see it continue into its second decade, but we need support from the fandom community to make it happen. Please take a look at our campaign and consider attending or otherwise supporting us.
