Marvel’s Inhumans - S1E6 - The Gentleman’s Name is Gorgon

I have defended this show because I enjoy it, but I am not blind to its faults. Honestly, sometimes it’s hard to put its issues into words. At the end of the day, it just feels… lazy. I’m sure everyone involved worked hard, but the story and more than a few of the scenes felt as though they were all taken out of the oven just a bit too soon. They lack that creative spark that makes this a series with potential despite its problems. Instead, it feels like a ton of wasted potential despite a few bright spots and great source material.

We’ve had six episodes with a Medusa with no hair. I have legit forgotten that Gorgon has hooves because of how determined they are to hide them — and sometimes hide them poorly. Mordis had potential, but he spent 90% of his screen time trekking through the woods and complaining. Iwan Rheon’s villainous genius (he truly plays the hell out of the misunderstood misfit who might also be a touch mad) has been wasted pouting around a nearly always empty throne room.Why hasn’t anyone else in the royal family learned to communicate with Black Bolt? And why did we need Crystal and her subplot at all? Will we ever learn why Lockjaw just randomly teleported the royal family to different parts of the island?

You end up focusing on all of that’s wrong with the series when they deliver an episode that was painfully redundant and only served to kill off one of the few tolerable, likable characters.

Crystal stopped whining about finding her family long enough to fry Audrey’s phone, sending Dave’s ex stomping off after promising that “this isn’t over.” Dave takes her to the highest point on the island so she can create lightning and signal the others. While Black Bolt, Medusa, and Louise head towards Crystal, Karnak and Gorgon go to Declan’s lab to deal with Auran and her army of Inhumans who really don’t want to be there. After freeing the hostages and taking out Auran, Gorgon sacrifices himself to stop Mordis, who refuses to be taken back alive. The royal family’s reunion is a sad one as they prepare to head home with a fallen member.

Meanwhile, the rebellion on Attilan was over before it truly began. Tibor wants Maximus dead and hopes that by telling him there’s a plot against him, it will get the usurper to trust him and only him. Maximus may be crazy, but he’s not dumb. He’s also paranoid. He enlists Bronaja’s gift to determine whether or not Tibor can be trusted, but it only reveals that Bronaja’s can’t be trusted either. In the end, Maximus once again murders his opposition and demands that a frightened Bronaja call him king.
