New to Netflix: August 2012
How’s it going, folks? Joseph here, and I’m here to bring you the goods for Netflix Instant Streaming. The Instant Streaming function has become such an integral part of our lives, and I think it’s the perfect time for it to get its shine. Now, what I plan on doing with this is giving the release date, title, the original year of release, and the Netflix rating. So, without further lining, here’s what you can look forward to streaming in August:
8/1 - The Day of the Jackal (1973): Netflix rating: 3.7
8/1 - Heaven’s Gate (1980): Netflix rating: 2.8
8/1 - Reservoir Dogs (1992): Netflix rating: 4 – This cult classic, released in 1992, was the debut film of Quentin Tarantino. It features an ensemble cast, starring Harvey Keitel, Steve Buscemi, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Chris Penn, and Lawrence Tierney. It pulled in over $14 million in the box office, and it really makes you think twice when you hear the song “Stuck in the Middle with You.”
8/1 - Flawless (1999): Netflix rating: 3.5
8/1 - Somewhere in Time (1980): Netflix rating: 3.7
8/1 - The Milagro Beanfield War (1988): Netflix rating: 3.7
8/1 - Quest for Fire (1981): Netflix rating: 3.3
8/1 - Sabrina (1954): Netflix rating: 4 – A classic film released in 1954, this movie is getting the Instant Streaming treatment. Starring Humphrey Bogart, Audrey Hepburn, and William Holden, it tells the story about an inadvertent love triangle between the three principles. The movie was selected for preservation in the U. S. National Film Registry in 2002.
8/1 - The Sweetest Thing (2002): Netflix rating: 3.4
8/1 - Monkey Trouble (1994): Netflix rating 3.3
8/1 - Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life (1983): Netflix rating 3.8
8/1 - Under the Cherry Moon (1986): Netflix rating: 2.9 – Normally, I would have chosen a different movie to highlight, but it’s his Purple Badness…whaddya want? This is considered the spiritual successor to the more popular – and more successful – Purple Rain. The movie was terrible in every conceivable way, but the music sounded good.
8/1 - Gray Lady Down (1978): Netflix rating: 3.3
8/1 - The Vanishing (1993): Netflix rating: 3.5
8/1 - Disorderlies (1987): Netflix rating: 3.5
8/1 - D.C. Cab (1982): Netflix rating: 3.2
8/1 - Kuffs (1992): Netflix rating: 3.2
8/1 - Cross My Heart (1987): Netflix rating: 2.6
8/1 - To Be or Not to Be (1983): Netflix rating: 3.5
8/11 - A Little Slice of Heaven (2011): Netflix rating: 3.6
8/15 - The Motorcycle Diaries (2004): Netflix rating: 3.8
8/27 - Traffic (2000): Netflix rating: 3.7 – Released in 2000, this film – based on a 2004 U.K. television series called Traffik – looks at the illegal drug trade from multiple different angles. The movie was a critical and financial success, and it brought home Oscars for Best Director (Steven Soderberg), Best Supporting Actor (Benecio Del Toro), Best Film Editing (Stephen Mirrione), and Best Adapted Screenplay (Stephen Gagan).
Any of these pique your interest? Or, is there something else that you may find more interesting? Let me know in the comments below!
Until next time…
Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve? I loved that movie as a kid. I’ll have to fire that one up and have a good cry.
Will definitely be watching Meaning of Life and Reservoir Dogs and probably won’t be able to stay away from Prince.
Oo-op!
Under The Cherry Moon will be a spectacularly cheesy camp evening for Kim and me, looking forward to it!!
Loved Traffic. I’ll be looking for that one on streaming. Thanks for the heads up.
I’ll probably be giving “Traffic” and “Sabrina” a look-over sometime in the future.
