Squire has taken a runner and his father blames himself, confessing that he roughly grabbed his son the last time they spoke. Alana puts her disgust aside to help the search. Hazel is left with Upsher, who still knows nothing about what happened to Doff last issue, and everyone else heads out to look for Squire.

This issue moved fairly quickly for one that did such an excellent job of ramping up the tension. Alone, Prince Robot IV encounters The Will, who is still looking for payback for the death of his love, The Stalk. He finally has the being responsible in front of him. While Prince Robot IV doesn’t seem particularly scared of The Will or the fate that lies before him — it even appears as if he understands that he had this coming — he is still worried about his son. He begs to be allowed to continue his search and flashes an image of Hazel tied to a chair. He may very well be looking to use her as a bargaining chip to get out of the situation altogether.

Squire’s encounter may prove to be even more deadly than his father’s. He’s saved from some underground worms by none other than Ianthe. The Will left her a note offering a truce: he killed her lover, she killed his dog, so they should be square. He has to have spent enough time with Ianthe to know how she operates, but can’t blame him for trying. He probably spent more time writing the note than Ianthe spent considering it. Her pursuit of The Will leads her to Squire, and now she has someone else she can use to get what she wants.
