What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from the sugar coma from Halloween to bring you the latest releases to home media for November 1, 2016. In this week’s episode, we discuss party people, the final frontier, old school heroics, the end of an era, and time travel. Let’s get to this.
Bad Moms (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 60%
Amy (Mila Kunis) has a great life: she has an awesome husband, brilliant kids, a nice home, and a career to die for. But, beneath the surface, Amy’s life is in shambles: she’s over-worked, exhausted, and on the verge of snapping. So, she finds two like-minded moms in Kiki (Kristin Bell) and (Kathryn Hahn) and they paint the town red, all while avoiding the Queen Bee of the PTA, Gwendolyn James (Christina Applegate). This film, which also stars Emjay Anthony, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Annie Mumolo, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This movie came from the minds of the guys who wrote The Hangover, and they usually know funny. Plus, any excuse to get Kristin Bell to use her comedic chops is a good thing.
Star Trek Beyond (PG-13)

In the third film in the new universe, Captain James Kirk (Chris Pine) and the Enterprise are tasked to go out to the far reaches of space to investigate an anomaly. However, what they discover is the villainous Krall (Idris Elba) who wants to decimate the Federation and all it holds dear. This film, which also stars Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, and Zoe Saldana, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a three disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. Were it not for Captain America: Civil War, this movie would’ve been my movie of the summer. Great storytelling, fantastic action, and a phenomenal cast makes this a must watch and a must own.
Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders (PG)
Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) are back on the case in this animated film that brings back the remaining cast members of the 1960s Batman TV series. When Gotham’s resident super villains - The Penguin (William Saylers), The Joker (Jeff Bergman), The Riddler (Wally Wingert), and Catwoman (Julie Newmar) hatch a nefarious plot to destroy Gotham City, the Dynamic Duo will need to travel to outer space and back to find a way to put a stop to their dastardly deeds. This film, which also stars Jim Ward, Steven Weber, and Thomas Lennon, is available in a single disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. For someone who grew up on the old TV show, this was a delight. It doesn’t take itself too seriously (I’m looking at you, Zack Snyder), and it’s not afraid to have fun. Give it a look.
Hell on Wheels: Season Five Volume 2 - The Final Episodes
Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount) has reached the end of the line with his work on the first transcontinental railroad in the US. But, his fight’s not over yet; he still has to contend with Chang (Byron Mann), Thomas Durant (Colm Meaney), and Thor “The Swede” Gundersen (Christopher Heyerdahl). These clashes lead to a thrilling finale, and a race that will change the country forever. This series, which also stars MacKenzie Porter, Chelah Horsdal, and Robin McLeavy, is available in a two disc Blu-ray version and a two disc DVD version. If you’ve been following this show from the beginning, there’s no time like the present to wrap it up. Add this to your collection and buckle up for the ride.
Outlander: Season 2
Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jaime (Sam Heughan) make it to France, and they are determined to infiltrate the Jacobite rebellion and prevent the battle of Culloden. This has its own challenges, not to mention the fact that doing so would change reality as they know it and doom their relationship. But, the two press forward and hope to stop a bloody uprising that would wipe out Scottish life as they know it. This series, which also stars Andrew Gower and Robert Cavanah, is available in a five disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a five disc DVD version. Filled with intrigue, beautiful scenery, and a race against time, this is a series that you shouldn’t miss.
