BluTuesday - April 12, 2016

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from my school’s hectic testing schedule to bring you the latest releases to home media for April 12, 2016. In this week’s episode, we discuss a trippy horror movie, a move that Warner Bros. should take, and a weird revival that no one asked for. Let’s not waste any time, and gt right to it.

The Forest (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 9%

When her twin sister disappears suddenly, Sara Price (Natalie Dormer) goes looking for her, only to find that she’s disappeared in the worst place possible: Japan’s mysterious Suicide Forest. During her search, she learns finds herself haunted by demented spirits who punish travelers who don’t follow one simple rule: never stray from the path. This film, which also stars Taylor Kinney, Yukiyoshi Ozawa, and Eoin Macken, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. From everything I’ve heard, this movie was pretty creepy, and it had a haunting payoff. If you like Japanese horror movies, give it a watch.

Justice League vs. Teen Titans (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: N/A

Shortly after Damien Wayne (Stuart Allen) becomes the new Robin and joins the Teen Titans, he finds himself a part of a massive rift between the Teen Titans and the Justice League. The Justice League is concerned that Raven (Taissa Farmiga) is working with her father, the demon Trigon (Jon Bernthal), and the Teen Titans sees Raven as the victim. The rift soon turns into a war between the two, as the Titans fight to not only protect Raven, but defend the earth from Trigon’s fury. This film, which also stars Rosario Dawson, Shemar Moore, and Jerry O’Connell, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. For those of you who were disappointed in BvS, this will be something that will help clean your palate. But, it’s also a very good movie, and it’s my pick of the week.

Heroes Reborn: Event Series

Heroes - the show that sparked a phenomenon and quickly squelched that goodwill - is back. After a terrorist attack in Odessa, Texas, humans who have transcended to the next step of evolution are to blame. The humans and “Evos” have conflicts that turn into an all-out war, as both sides fight for survival. This series, which stars Jack Coleman, Zachary Levi, and Kiki Sukezane, is available in a three disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a four disc DVD version. The original show was an interesting concept that died under the weight of its own designs, and this “rebirth” managed to do worse. Don’t torture yourself with this.

That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Please feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
