News Ticker

BluTuesday - February 6, 2018

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from still recovering from my Big Game hangover to bring you the latest releases to home media for February 6, 2018. In this week’s episode, we discuss mommies behaving badly, the Dark Knight like you’ve never seen him before, a presidential proposition, and spy intrigue. Let’s get started.

A Bad Moms Christmas (R)
Metascore: 42

In this sequel to the surprise 2016 hit, the bad moms themselves - Amy (Mila Kunis), Carla (Katheryn Hahn), and Kiki (Kristen Bell) - are dealing with the rigors of having a good Christmas for their children. However, things get a little complicated when their mothers - Ruth (Christine Baranski), Isis (Susan Sarandon), and Sandy (Cheryl Hinds) decide to pop by for a visit and spread some Christmas cheer. This film, which also stars Jay Hernandez, Justin Hartley, and Peter Gallagher, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. The first film was unexpectedly hilarious, and the sequel appears to be in the same vein. Give it a watch.

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight (R)
Metascore: N/A

Set at the turn of the century, this animated film gives a look at the Batman mythos like you’ve never seen before. The women of Gotham are being terrorized by Jack the Ripper, and it’s up to Batman (Bruce Greenwood) and Selina Kyle (Jennifer Carpenter) to get down to the bottom of this mystery. This film, which also features the voices of Anthony Head, John DiMaggio, and Tara Strong, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version. This movie is beautifully animated, well-voiced, and utterly brutal. It’s a perfect gift for any Batman fan out there or any fan of the DC Animated movies as a whole.

LBJ (R)
Metascore: 54

In this film, Woody Harrelson stars as Lyndon B. Johnson, as we take a look at his life from losing the Democratic primary to John F. Kennedy (Jeffrey Donovan), becoming the younger man’s running mate and eventual vice president, and stepping up when President Kennedy is assassinated. This film, which also stars Richard Jenkins, Bill Pullman, and Kim Allen, is available in a single disc Blu-ray version and a single disc DVD version. Okay, so…I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say this film was made in response to Selma because so many people took umbrage with how LBJ was presented in that film. Some people look at LBJ as a saint, others look at him as a madman; both can be true. At the very least, this film is well acted. Check it out for that, at least.

Homeland: The Complete Sixth Season
Metascore: 68

In the sixth season of this long-running Showtime drama, Carrie Matheson (Claire Danes) is working at a foundation for Muslims mistreated by NYPD. Her former mentor Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) is still kicking around with the CIA, along with black ops specialist Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham), and former CIA operative Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) is struggling to recover from being poisoned by sarin gas. As the country races towards the impending presidency of Elizabeth Kane (Elizabeth Marvel), plans are set in motion for a fascinating season. This series, which also stars Hill Harper, Robert Knepper, and Shaun Toub, is available in a three disc Blu-ray version and a four disc DVD version. I usually have something witty to put here, but…I just don’t have it in me for this series. I’m sure they know what they’re doing though. I hope.

That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
