What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from wallowing in disappointment to bring you the latest releases to home media for February 7, 2016. In this week’s episode, we discuss the most stressful time of the year, the dark side of DC, and a timeless romance. Let’s get started.
Almost Christmas (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 48%
Walter (Danny Glover) is a widower who is the patriarch over an incredibly dysfunctional family. When Christmastime rolls around, all he wants for Christmas is for his family to get along like they used to. If they can survive five days together, then it’ll be the best Christmas gift he could ever ask for. This film, which also stars Kimberly Elise, Omar Epps, and Romany Malco, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. Out of all the movies that came out last year, this was one of them. It’s rote, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. If it’s your thing, have at it.
Justice League Dark (R)

Metropolis, Gotham City, and the other major cities in the DC universe are under siege. When innocent civilians start committing horrendous crimes, Batman (Jason O’Mara) calls on John Constantine (Matt Ryan) to save the day. But, when Constantine realizes he can’t do it alone, he brings out the magical side of the DC universe - Zatanna (Camilla Luddington), Deadman (Nicholas Turturro), Swamp Thing (Roger R. Cross), and Etrigan the Demon (Ray Chase) - with the goal of saving the day. This film, which also stars Rosario Dawson, Jerry O’Connell, and Alfred Molina, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. With the exception of a rare misstep here and there (Batman: The Killing Joke, I’m looking at you), the animated movies have been much better than their live action counterparts. This is no exception to the rule. Check it out.
Loving (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 89%
This film, based on a true story, tells the story of Richard and Mildred Loving (Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga), a married couple living in 1950s Virginia, which would be fine under normal circumstances; however, since Richard and Mildred are an interracial couple, their relationship is anything but simple. They spend nine years fighting for their love to be recognized in courts, even going all the way to the Supreme Court. This film, which also stars Michael Shannon, Marton Csokas, and Nick Kroll, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This is a timeless tale, and it’s one that proves that love overcomes all. I highly recommend this film.
