News Ticker

BluTuesday - June 4th, 2013

Let me tell you what, folks; it is good to be back! Joseph here, and - after a long break - I’m bringing you what’s new in the world of Blu for June 4th, 2013. This week’s episode features Bruce Willis, zombies in love, fan favorites, meth addicts, and aliens. All ready to roll? Let’s get this going then.

A Good Day to Die Hard (R)

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 15%

Bruce Willis is back in action - mind-blowing, heart-stopping, rip-roaring action - as John McClane, the heroic New York cop with a knack for being in the wrong place at the right time. John’s latest predicament takes him all the way to Russia to track down his estranged son, Jack (Jai Courtney), who has been imprisoned in Moscow. But the mission takes a deadly turn as father and son must join forces to thwart a nuclear weapons heist that could trigger World War III! This movie comes in both a two disc BluRay/DVD set and a single disc DVD set. The critics hated this movie, but let’s be honest…this movie isn’t supposed to be a critical darling. This is supposed to be about John McClane and his son acting like impossible white men going to Russia and blowing shit up. If you’re down with that, this is the movie for you.

Warm Bodies (PG-13)

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 80%

After a zombie epidemic, R (a zombie played by Nicholas Hoult) rescues Julie (a human survivor played by Teresa Palmer) from a zombie attack. The two form a special relationship in their struggle for survival, R becomes increasingly more human - setting off a chain of events that begins to transform the other zombies and maybe even the whole lifeless world. This movie comes in both a single disc BluRay and a single disc DVD version. This is actually a sweet movie, and it’s a completely different take on the zombie genre. I recommend checking it out.

Breaking Bad: The Fifth Season

Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul return in their Emmyr -winning roles of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman in the fifth explosive season of Breaking Bad. With Gus Fring dead, Walt’s transformation from a well-meaning family man to ruthless drug kingpin is nearly complete. Forming a partnership with Jesse and Mike (Jonathan Banks), Walt proceeds to make a killing in the meth business until the fruits of his murderous schemes are threatened by a new development in the investigation led by his relentless brother-in-law Hank (Dean Norris). Executive produced by Vince Gilligan and Mark Johnson, the fifth season charts the murderous rise of Walter White as he reaches new highs…and new lows. This series comes in both a three disc Bluray version and a three disc DVD version. This series is a ProFan favorite, and it is our pick of the week.

Falling Skies: The Complete Second Season

The mystery deepens for the remaining survivors of the massive alien invasion as Falling Skies returns for its second season with mysterious new creatures. Three months have passed since former college professor, father of three and unlikely leader of the civilian resistance group Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) went willingly with the aliens on one of their ships to free his son and learn their plans. Nobody has seen or heard anything from him during this time, and his absence has taken its toll on his sons. Ben and his older brother, Hal, have stepped up as fighters but quickly clash as they both seek to secure their roles as leaders in their father’s absence. Many lives have been lost since Tom left, but the survivors of the 2nd Mass still struggle on with courage and resilience. In the first season, our heroes coped with the trauma of losing their world; in this season, they take action and fight back! This series comes in both a two disc BluRay version and a three disc DVD version. If you like sci-fi and watching a war-torn earth fight for survival, this is the show for you. Check it out.
