What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from enjoying the oncoming storm of spring to bring you the latest releases to home media for March 1, 2016. In this week’s episode, we discuss the best boxing movie of our generation, one actor playing the part of two, a heartbreaking movie, a film about a pioneer, and a palette cleanser. Creed (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 94%
Michael B. Jordan stars as Adonis Johnson, the son of the late Apollo Creed. He never knew his father, but he loves boxing. So much so, that he moves to Philadelphia, hunts down the great Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), and convinces the retired boxer to train him to be like his dad. This film, which also stars Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, and Andre Ward, is available in a single disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This was a great movie that helped to revitalize not only Stallone’s career, but also an entire genre of film. This was a great film, one of the best of the year, and it’s my pick of the week.

Reggie Kray (Tom Hardy) and his brother Ronnie (Tom Hardy) are big-time gangsters in the London crime scene. But, they are also heading in different directions: Reggie wants to go legit so he can take care of Francis Shea (Emily Browning), and Ronnie just wants to bust heads. There’s no way this can go wrong, right? This film,which also stars David Thewlis, Christopher Eccleston, and Taron Egerton, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This is a nice historical drama that may be worth your time. Give it a watch.
Room (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 94%
Joy Newsome (Brie Larson) and her five year old son Jack (Jacob Tremblay) make a daring escape from the room in which they lived in all of Jack’s life, and the young child becomes acquainted with the outside world. This film, which also stars Joan Allen, William H. Macy, and Tom McCamus, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This is a powerful movie, with great performances and an Academy Award win for Brie Larson, and it’s a movie that I will never watch again. Not because it’s bad, but because it’s painful.
The Danish Girl (R)

Eddie Redmayne stars as Einar Wegener, the world’s first gender reassignment patient. Along with his wife Gerda (Alicia Vikander), they show the world that love knows no gender. This film, which also stars Amber Heard, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Ben Whishaw, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This is a good movie with good performances, and none better than Alicia Vikander, who took home an Academy Award for her performance. It may not be for you, though; and, that’s okay. It’s still a movie I recommend checking out.
The Night Before (R)

Best friends Ethan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Isaac (Seth Rogen), and Chris (Anthony Mackie) have always gotten together on Christmas Eve to revel in their debauchery and inane hilarity. But, time catches up with you fast, and as they careen into adulthood and priorities begin shifting, they go to seek out the biggest Christmas ball of all: The Nutcracka Ball. This film, which also stars Lizzie Caplan, Mindy Kaling, and Michael Shannon, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. I’m not a big comedy person, and I haven’t been in quite some time. But, this does have pockets of humor, and it’s worth checking out.
