What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from dodging BvS and Daredevil spoilers to bring you the latest releases to home media for March 29, 2016. In this week’s episode, we discuss what happens when you tell the troof, an extreme remake, a western from the mind of madness, and an animated super spy. Let’s just jump right in, shall we?
Concussion (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 61%
Dr. Bennet Omalu (Will Smith) is a brilliant forensic neuropathologist who finds himself in the crosshairs of the National Football League when he discovers a link between big hits and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, or CTE. Naturally, Dr. Omalu wants to bring this to light, but the NFL wants nothing more than it to go away. Thus sets the stage for one of the biggest fights in sports history. This film, which also stars Stephen Moyer, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Alec Baldwin, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This was a tough watch, and not only because of Will Smith’s accent; I am a fan of football, but watching these modern day gladiators being reduced to shreds and discarded by the league they sunk so much of their life into gives me pause. Watching this movie didn’t help that at all. It’ll be interesting to see which side of history this movie falls in on as time progresses.
Point Break (PG-13)

Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey) is an up and coming FBI agent who goes undercover to infiltrate a ring of thrill-seeking criminals led by the charismatic Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez). These extreme criminals push Utah to the edge, both athletically and morally, as he has to decide whether to turn these criminals in or catch the wave doing what he loves. This film, which also stars Teresa Palmer, Delroy Lindo, and Ray Winstone, is available in a three disc 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. Who asked for this? The original is only remembered as a classic because it was of its time, and Patrick Swayze. This, on the other hand, is pure tripe. I think it lasted in theaters for maybe a week? I’m not sure, because I’m not looking it up. Don’t torture yourself with this. Please.
The Hateful Eight (R)

Set somewhere between six to twelve years after the Civil War, this film tells the story of bounty hunter John Ruth (Kurt Russell) as he brings his bounty, Ms. Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh) to the town of Red Rock, Wyoming for her hanging. Along the way, they pick up former Union soldier and fellow bounty hunter Major Marquis Warren (SAMUEL L. JACKSON) and a southern roughneck who claims to be the new mayor of Red Rock named Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins). As a winter storm brews and forces these travelers to stop at a haberdashery, more volatile forces come into play, and they may not make it to their final destination after all. This film, which also stars Demian Bichir, Tim Roth, and Michael Madsen, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. I’m not the biggest fan of Quentin Tarantino, but this is a masterpiece. It’s shot beautifully, the score is masterful, and the acting is top notch. I’ll give this my pick of the week, and I highly recommend it.
Archer: The Complete Season 6
Everyone’s favorite super spy is back, and he’s here to wreck shop! Archer and the gang go from Borneo to Wales to all points in-between in order to reach their ultimate goal: complete and total wealth at the cost of everyone else around them. This series, which stars H. Jon Benjamin, Aisha Tyler, and Jessica Walter, is available in a two disc Blu-ray version and a two disc DVD version. This show is a riot, and it has been since the very beginning. If you need a good laugh, this is the show for you.
