BluTuesday - March 6, 2018

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from prepping for my daughter’s birthday to bring you the latest releases to home media for March 6, 2018. In this week’s episode, we discuss a coming of age drama, a look back at history, and quite possibly the trippiest movie of 2017. Let’s get to it.

Lady Bird (R)
Metascore: 94

Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) is the spitting image of her strong-willed and highly opinionated mother Marion (Laurie Metcalf). As Marion struggles to keep her family afloat after patriarch Larry (Tracy Letts) loses her job, Lady Bird has to learn how to navigate growing into an adult during the tumultuous time of 2002. This film, which also stars Lucas Hedges, Timothée Chalamet, and Beanie Feldstein, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. It’s nice to see Laurie Metcalf again, but as far as  the rest of the movie goes…maybe it’s just not for me. This kind of film has its audience, but that audience does not include me at all. So, if it’s for you, then have at it.

The Man Who Invented Christmas (PG)
Metascore: 60

This film tells the story of Charles Dickens (Dan Stevens) and his struggle to stay afloat as a writer. He eventually creates one of the most beloved Christmas stories of all time, and its creation changed the way the world would see Christmas forever. This film, which also stars Christopher Plummer, Jonathan Pryce, and Morfydd Clark, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. Okay, so…it’s really difficult for me to reconcile a wonderful story like A Christmas Carol with the insane degenerate that was Charles Dickens. This movie ignores the more seedy parts of Dickens’ life to focus on the writing of the novel, but…I don’t know. Maybe it’s my own foibles that get in the way of a good film sometimes.

Thor: Ragnarok (PG-13)
Metascore: 74

The God of Thunder is back in his best movie yet! Flung into a prison on the other side of the universe without Mjolnir, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has to team up with the unexpected Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), the unlikely Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), and the unwanted Loki (Tom Hiddleston) to take on Hela (Cate Blanchett), a warrior from the past hell bent on bringing Asgard to its knees. This film, which also stars Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, and Idris Elba, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. The stakes are high in this movie, but there is plenty of fun to be had throughout. Check it out.

That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
