BluTuesday - May 15, 2018

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from sweltering in this heat to bring you the latest releases to home media for May 15, 2018. In this week’s episode, we discuss the Batman, a merciful end to a trilogy, the King, wild and crazy scientists, and YA shenanigans. Let’s get to work.

Batman Ninja (PG-13) - NOTE: This was released on May 8, 2018
Metascore: N/A

This is Batman like you’ve never seen him before! After the entirety of Batman’s Rogues Gallery and the Bat-family found themselves stuck in feudal Japan thanks to the time-traveling shenanigans of Gorilla Grodd, Batman must use his superior intelligence to defeat his Rogues and get everyone home again. This film, which stars Roger Craig Smith, Grey Griffin, and Tara Strong, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. Okay, listen…can we as a nation finally admit we’ve reached a Batman saturation point? What’s next? Batman in the Stone Age? Seriously…enough.

Fifty Shades Freed (R) - NOTE: This was released on May 8, 2018
Metascore: 31

The final chapter of the milquetoast, saltine-infused “erotic” franchise has arrived. Now a happily married couple, Christian (Jamie Dornan) and Ana (Dakota Johnson) are relaxing in the lap of luxury. But, when a shadowy figure from the past appears, it threatens to destroy their happily ever after forever. This film, which also stars Eric Johnson, Rita Ora, and Luke Grimes, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD unrated version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD unrated version, and a single disc DVD unrated version. I’m boycotting discussing this franchise for the rest of my life.

Black Panther (PG-13)
Metascore: 88

Do I really have to do an intro to this? It made a billion dollars! Every - okay, fine. Following the events of Captain America: Civil War that saw the death of his father T’Chaka (John Kani), T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) takes his place as the rightful king of Wakanda. But, when Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) comes to usurp the throne, it will take all of T’Challa’s might to keep his country safe. This film, which also stars Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, and Letitia Wright, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a single disc Blu-ray +Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. This was one of the most successful and most entertaining movies of the year, and it’s certainly worth watching again and again. Wakanda Forever!

Rick and Morty: Season 3
Metascore: N/A

In the third season of the Adult Swim series, Rick and Morty (both voiced by Justin Roiland) are recuperating after the events of last season. Marriages are tested, friendships are put on the line, and normal Rick and Morty hijinks ensure. This series, which also features the voices of Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer, and Sarah Chalke, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a two disc DVD version. This is one weird ass show, man. Get you some Szechuan Sauce and enjoy yourself.

The Shannara Chronicles: Season Two
Metascore: N/A

After the events of last season, the Four Lands has been thrust into chaos. The terror of magic users has brought forth an organization called the Crimson, who’s sole purpose for existence is to hunt down magic users. Will (Austin Butler) has turned from magic to become a healer, but after being saved by a mage named Mareth (Malese Jow), he’s forced to rejoin the fight. Together, they have to take down the Crimson before a bigger threat hits the Four Lands. This series, which also stars Poppy Drayton, Ivana Baquero, and Manu Bennett, is available in a single disc Blu-ray version. Eh…I got nothin’.

That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
