BluTuesday - May 16, 2017

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from making preparations for prom chaperoning to bring you the latest releases to home media for May 16, 2017. In this week’s episode, we discuss the end of a franchise that never ends, the return of a franchise that we all thought was dead, and teen schmaltz. Let’s hop to it.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 33%

In the latest chapter of the long-running Resident Evil franchise, Alice (Milla Jovovich) brings the fight to the Umbrella Corporation in Raccoon City. Alongside Claire Redfield, (Ali Larter), the two have to bring down the sinister corporation once and for all. This film, which also stars Iain Glen, Shawn Roberts, and William Levy, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. These are the films that never end, they just go on and on my friend; some people start to film it and they never get enough, and they’ll keep filming this long series simply just because…

xXx: Return of Xander Cage (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 43%

Twelve years after the utter disaster that was xXx: State of the Union comes Vin Diesel in the role he originated: Xander Cage. In this film, Cage and his family - I mean team - have to find the deadly Pandora’s Box before the terrorist Xiang (Donnie Yen) can get his hands on it. This film, which also stars SAMUEL L. JACKSON, Deepika Padukone, and Tony Jaa, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a three disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. When I first saw the trailers for this movie, I was excited. I mean, Vin Diesel is at the helm of one of the most successful franchises of all time in the Fast and Furious films, so why not try to bring back the great Xander Cage? Well, if you liked the first one, you’ll like this one. If you like the Fast and Furious movies, you might like this one. If you like Vin Diesel, you’ll like this one. If none of these are your jam, then - to quote Soul II Soul - keep on movin’, don’t stop now.

The Space Between Us (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 17%

Gardner Elliot (Asa Butterfield) is a history making young man; he is the first human to be born on Mars. He’s always wanted to see Earth and meet his father and meet a beautiful girl named Tulsa (Britt Robertson) he met online. But, when he finally makes the trip, scientists discover that his heart can’t handle the change in atmosphere. Gardner and Tulsa then set foot on a cross-country trip to find his father and explore the mysteries of where he truly belongs. This film, which also stars Gary Oldman, Carla Gugino, and B.D. Wong, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. So…I think Britt Robertson needs a new agent, because she’s steadily playing teenagers. She’s like Bianca Lawson for mainstream cinema! Oh, and the movie’s okay, I guess.

That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
