What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from learning lines to bring you the latest releases to home media for October 24, 2017. In this week’s episode we discuss creepy dolls, a different type of medium, a weird idea for a movie, and the end of a hero. Let’s get started.
Annabelle: Creation (R)

Several years after the tragic death of their young daughter, dollmaker Samuel Mullins (Anthony LaPaglia) and his wife Esther (Miranda Otto) welcome Sister Charlotte (Stephanie Sigman) and six children from a recently closed orphanage into their homes with one explicit rule: don’t go into their late daughter’s room. Because this is a horror movie, someone goes into her room, and unleashes the horror known as Annabelle to the world, and no one is safe. This film, which also stars Talitha Bateman, Lulu Wilson, and Fred Tatasciore, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version. Yeah, I don’t do horror, so I’ll leave this to you if you like these movies.
Personal Shopper (R)

Maureen Cartwright (Kristen Stewart) is a spiritual medium who moved to Paris to serve as the personal shopper for a media celebrity named Kyra (Nora von Waldstatten). She hates the personal shopper part of the job, but it’s the only way she could afford to go to Paris, because she’s trying to make contact with her recently deceased twin brother. There’s no way this can end horribly, right? This film, which also stars Lars Eidinger, Anders Danielsen Lie, and Sigrid Bouaziz, is available in a single disc Blu-ray version and a single disc DVD version. Yeah…y’know what? I’m good! I’m good. See it if you will; as mentioned above, I don’t do horror.
The Emoji Movie (PG)

Welcome to Textopolis, a bustling metropolis where all the emoji in your smartphone live. Gene (T.J. Miller) is a disappointed emoji, because he has multiple facial expressions, unlike the rest of the population that only has one. He undertakes a journey with his best friend emoji Hi-5 (James Corden) and the criminal emoji Jailbreak (Anna Faris) on a quest to become a normal emoji like everyone else, but when a great threat dooms their world, the three unlikely heroes have to band together to save their home. This film, which also stars Maya Rudolph, Patrick Stewart, and Sofía Vergara, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a single disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. No. Just…no.
War for the Planet of the Apes (PG-13)

Metascore: 82
In the final film in the Planet of the Apes prequel trilogy, Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his fellow apes are forced into conflict with a deranged Colonel (Woody Harrelson). When the apes suffer tragic losses, Caesar begins to fight with his darker instincts and his desire to avenge those he lost. As their journey brings the two Captain Ahabs closer together, a fight for survival begins. This film, which also stars Steve Zahn, Amiah Miller, and Terry Notary, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD + Digital HD version. This film was spectacular, and it was a fitting end to a fantastic series. I highly recommend this.
