What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from plotting on my daughter’s future Halloween candy to bring you the greatest releases to home media for October 27, 2015. In this week’s episode, we discuss genetic experiments gone bad, a weird take on the nuclear holocaust, and a nurse with an interesting bedisde manner. Ready to get started? Let’s get started.
Jurassic World (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 70%
20 years after the original crashed and burned, Jurassic World has become a highly successful theme park. But, when visitors are starting to decline, Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) has turned to genetically creating new attractions, including the humongous Indominous Rex. However, when the I. Rex breaks free, it’s up to Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) to coral the dinosaur and save Claire’s two nephews who came along for the ride. This film, which also stars B. D. Wong, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Omar Sy, is available in a three disc 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This movie…wasn’t for me. I loved the original, the second one was horrible, and I didn’t even bother with the third. I wish I wouldn’t have taken a shot at this one. But, I’ll bite my tongue on this one, because it was loved by quite a lot of people. So, I’m gonna reluctantly give this my pick of the week.
Z for Zachariah (PG-13)

Somewhere in the future, a nuclear attack has wiped out most civilization on earth. Shortly after that, Ann Burden (Margot Robie) is eking out a life on her family’s farm, when she meets a fellow survivor named John Loomis (Chiwetel Ejiofor). The two form a bond, but when Caleb (Chris Pine) - another survivor - arrives, tensions flare up as the oldest and strongest emotion comes into play. This film, which also stars no one else, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This has an interesting premise, and it’s certainly worth checking out.
Nurse Jackie: Season 7
Everyone’s favorite nurse has returned. Edie Falco returns as the eponymous nurse as the stakes for its final season have never been higher. For years, Jackie has hidden her addiction from her co-workers, but when the truth finally comes out, she has to fight to earn their trust again as well as save her job. This series, which also stars Anna Deavere Smith, Paul Schulze, and Eve Best, is available in both a two disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a three disc DVD version. It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday, and it’s so hard to say goodbye to Nurse Jackie, but it has to be done. It can’t hurt to say goodbye with a final disc like this.
