BluTuesday - October 29, 2013

Boo! Joseph here, and I’m taking a break from chewing on Halloween candy to bring you the best in home releases for October 29, 2013. This week’s episode features cuddly monsters, goofy monsters, and Glenn Close. Ready to rock? Let’s do it!

Monsters University (G)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 78%

Disney Pixar proudly presents the hilarious story of how two mismatched monsters met and became lifelong friends in a movie screaming with laughter and oozing with heart. Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he’s dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best Scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer. The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. With their dreams temporarily dashed, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right. This movie comes in a four disc 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a three disc 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a three disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This movie is adorable, and it’s like a comfortable pair of shoes. On top of that, it’s also my pick of the week.

R.I.P.D. (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 13%

Veteran sheriff Roy Pulsifer (Jeff Bridges), who has spent his career with legendary police force R.I.P.D. tracking monstrous souls disguised among the living as ordinary people, is none-to-happy to be assigned former rising-star detective Nick Walker (Ryan Reynolds) as his partner. However, upon uncovering a plot that could end life as we know it, the new duo have to turn grudging respect into top-notch teamwork to restore the cosmic balance…or watch the tunnel to the afterlife spill angry souls onto Earth. This movie comes in a three disc 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This was a great movie…back when it was called Men in Black. Watch that movie instead.

Damages: The Complete Series (Unrated)

Glenn Close (in her two-time Emmy winning role) commands the courtroom and the screen as win-at-all-costs attorney Patty Hewes, staking out her turf against ambitious ex-protégé Ellen Parsons (two-time Emmy nominee Rose Byrne). The former legal allies battle each other in high stakes cases involving ruthless billionaires, government conspiracies, economic crises, multinational corporations and military scandals. Throughout its remarkable run, the hit thriller also showcases brilliant guest stars including Ted Danson, William Hurt, Marcia Gay Harden, Lily Tomlin, Martin Short, John Goodman, Jenna Elfman and Ryan Phillippe. This series comes in a 15 disc DVD version, and it’s certainly worth your time if you are either a fan of the show or a fan of Glenn Close.
